This is the view of the back of the DVD player of a 2008 Land Cruiser 200 Series after you've taken care getting access to it.

The Yellow wire going to the red crimp terminal is the handbrake wire which is earthed from the DVD side.

The short Violet wire to the right is the vehicle speed sensor, which is cut.

For future modles, the process will be the same for finding these wires. The hand brake will have an earth signal when it is up, and it
will be open circuit when the hand brake goes down.
The vehicle speed sensor will create a negative pulse when the vehicle is moving.

Both conditions can be found easily with a LED circuit tester that is hooked to the battery, this will allow you to test circuits without
putting any load on them, or switching the earth through the test light. Do not induce power or earths with these testers unless you know
what the circuit is supposed to do as you may damage equipment.

I wonder why we are suppose to do this?

So ground the yellow wire and cut the violet wire?

Just trying to make these instructions a little more user friendly....

DVD Overide

Hello all,
I have an aussie model turbo diesel sahara and i am wondering if this modification also allows you to use phone, gps while you are moving seeing how the speed sensor wire is getting cut???
Any help appreciated
Regards Bryan

Yeah, I'm curious too if this bypass is JUST for DVD watching (which I don't care about) or for entering destinations while moving? I had thought that the only solution was to slipstream the loading.kwi file from a 5.1 disc into a 7.1 disc, and use the screen tap method every time.

Curious as well, I would like to enter destinations while driving and use the screen to navigate the dvd menus for the kids

A lot of people probably search for this for their cruiser ( Sorry to bring back an old thread! ) and today I decided to actually have a look and see if it'll work.

So, pulling the dash apart, I found I don't actually have this particular plug on my 2015 non DPF Sahara. I only have the big 3 layer plug on the back of the player.
but, still much the same process. Ground the Yellow and cut the violet. ( don't seem to have an amplifier behind my player? dunno where it is)
Please to say, so far the car hasn't burst into flames, not getting any codes and I can watch the screen while driving. ( not something I do often. only when off road to keep the kids entertained, I like to watch ).
So, all in all. This was a success. I had to check the service manual to make sure I had the right wires, and thankfully I did.

Does this allow you to set the Nav destination while moving?

Bump

Anyone else done this mod?
Has anyone tried this?
Very very belated response given the age of this thread and posts. This works amazingly and it does allow you to input gps addresses while moving. However, the navigation is very outdated. It also does work for your front passenger to enjoy a dvd while you stay focused on the road during trips

This is great, thanks for the update!

I can’t help but wonder if these wires are accessible somewhere else, like in the kick panels. I’m always worried about adding more rattles to the dash.

Zero rattles, one wire gets electrical taped, and the other one there's a perfect screw behind the stereo that you use as a ground

Sorry for the late reply.

Honestly, not 100% sure as I don't use the nav feature on it. I use the map occasionally.
I would say it probably does, as in techstream, I do get an error code relating to the unit not being able to detect speed.
