Kris,

Back on your earlier subject. By law, though rarely enforced, you are required to report out of state purchases that have not been charged KS taxes as part of your KS tax return. I don't recall the exact details, but I know there have been discussions in the legislature about a more "permanent" way of collecting these lost taxes.

Don't know about Kansas(except that Mizzou beat them in football:D), but in MO the first $2,000 is allowed or exempted.

$2000 in sales or taxes?

I'm sure that I'm beating a dead horse so I'll get over it.

That would be $2,000 worth of purchases made by me from out of state vendors. They exempt the first 2K.

OFFICERS: please PM me with your email/phone number/ and mailing address. (this applies to anyone else who want's a x-mas card next year as well ;p)

Peggy: By-laws will be on the way shortly.

Andrew: will you scan and send me a copy of the sign up sheet?

Matt:cheers:

I was just doing my taxes and ran a couple of what-ifs on out of state purchases. From what I can tell, there is no exemption - if I put in $1000 with a 6.8% tax rate (which depends on your locale) it added $68 to my tax bill.

In Missouri, there is.

Interesting because the vast majority of my out of state purchases made online or by phone do not have taxes collected. Maybe I was jumping ahead of myself. Certain retailers collect taxes in all states but they usually have brick and mortar building in each state so they are required to collect sales tax.
