To keep the odometer/speedo as accurate as possible and gearing as close to stock. The odometer is very accurate w/ the stock sized 275/60R18's. On a recent run, my GPS measured 529 mi, odometer measured 534 mi.

I don't know Jim this 1.6% larger size would make my warranty last just that much longer :)

Did any one get GoodYear Silent Armor

I have been happy with my Nitto TG's (285/75/16's), I too was thinking of the BFG route but have been warned about the increased noise, and they seemed just a little to dated ( style wise ). The Nitto's add a little additional noise, but if your wife is anything like mine you will only hear her when driving, or the baby, or the radio, etc......

C'mon, surely you can find something better then the BF A/T??? The tread design and composite of this tyre hasn't changed in over 20 odd years. Do your cruiser justice and find something that really works.

The tread and compounding of the BFG AT have changed significantly over the years. The K/O which came out about 9 years ago brought about a new tread design as well as dual compounding tread that gave much more consistent performance over the life of the tire. That said, since the original poster want's a quiet, comfortable A/T, I would start with the Bridgestone Revo.

I just put 285/75/16 bfg at ko's on my 99LC last week. I noticed a very slight change in tire noise...barely noticeable. A small, also barely noticeable difference in highway handling also. No real change in performance that I have noticed(I have run one tank of gas and maybe 1mpg lower). I think they look sooo much better and will definitely be better for winter/mountain driving conditions.

Among the AT tires, I know the BFG's have 3-ply sidewalls while the Bridgestone revo's, yokohama's, michelin's, goodyear silent armor's have a 2-ply sidewall (albeit the sillent armors do have a kevlar belt, but I think it's under the tread only and not in the sidewall). I do know one guy who did a multi-month Outback expedition from Melbourne across the desert to the north coast of Oz and back in his HDJ100 w/ relatively new bridgestone AT's (had 2 spares) and got 2 flats, both sliced sidewalls. At a small town, the tire shop recommended the Bridgestone AT's for the 3-plys over the "wimpy" 2-ply bridgestones. He changed all tires & spares to the bridgestones and hasn't had a flat since.

People talk about road noise with the BFGs, but they forget its a 100 series not a wrangler. I barely noticed the difference from the LTXs. It DOES for sure have more road noise then our other CARS but in my truck the BFGs are not noticeably louder.

But Loud, don't have have one of those noisy performance exhausts? :) On my old 4runner, the performance exhaust is so noisy I couldn't even hear the header until stripping out the interior and lining the body with Peel n Seal. Any noise generated by the BFG's is way below the exhaust. Maybe it would be noticeable on the quiet 100, though.

OK so I'm new to the forum, and somewhat knew to Land Cruisers (finally got the best), but I have gone through a few sets of tires in my years of off-roading. My .02 is really consider what you are going to use the tires for as every tire has it's trade off's. The BFG A/T is a good tire for some applications and has a good tread life, but my BFG A/T's were my least fav. The road noise didn't bother me but they didn't clear mud well, didn't get purchase when I really needed them to, and after being on dirt ALWAYS through rocks when going above 45 mph ... and then to top it off they just wouldn't wear down (to cheap to just get rid of them). :bang: Anyway, you're question was about tire size. After doing my research I would go with what Hoser recomended.

True, true, but IMO an A/T should not become a slick in a little mud. I have had/seen many A/T's that cleared considerably better than the BFG's.

and the BFG A/Ts do exceptionally well in snow, better then most other A/Ts due to the fact they DONT clear the snow, double edged sword. I'd rather it not clear, since I drive in snow more then mud.

IMO, they are louder but not "loud" in a 100... maybe though when they are worn down 50%. Another tire that is quieter and comes in that same size is the Toyo Open Country AT or the Nitto Terra Grappler.

Also, Toyo owns Nitto.

Ryan818...

I'm going with the Cooper Discoverer ST's next in 275/70/18 - 33" E rated. I think they are the most aggressive AT tire out there. They will produce the same noise as most AT's when new, but WILL get louder than most when they wear. I've heard the noise picks up a bit, but for the added traction of this AT I think it's worth it. They are supposed to be great in mud (for an AT) rock, sand etc - also quite good in snow, especially if siped which I'm going to do. They're also not to expensive - about $215 per tire.

I have Revo's know and like them except they are a tad mellow for me - and the tread depth on the Revo 275/65/18's is only 11/32" - versus the Cooper's which is 18/32" - BIG difference...

 huh? he had bridgstones with 2-ply and was then recommended and replaced with 3-ply bridegstones? Did you mean BFG AT?:bang:
