2005 or 2006?

I'm really surprised the difference in power is that noticeable. I know they jumped the horsepower up from 235 to 275 but the torque only jumped up 12 pounds from 320 to 332. I wouldn't think you would even notice that.

I have a 4 cylinder camry with 220 thousand miles on it with VVT-i and it has ran fine the whole time. I wouldn't worry to much about it.

^ Only '06 and '07 model year 100-Series/LX470 in North America at least got the VVTi 2UZ-FE. Its possible an '06 might have been manufactured in 2005...where the VIN and/or looking at the head would be necessary. Or just a typo on DT's part...

Thanks!

If you're choosing the 05 due mainly to the comment about the emissions pump, I truly believe you're making a mistake. In terms of actual real ratios, it's very very unlikely you'll have to deal with this, as you'll likely have less than a 2-3% chance of any issues. Most people never have an issue. 2006+ is better in every way, it's updated, newer design, more power, and also there were much fewer cruisers made in 06-07, so you're effectively getting a rarer car (in a sense). Anyway, if you end up with the 05 you're still getting an awesome vehicle, it's just that the 06-07's are awesomer! :D

Lets clarify the differences between the 05-06

06+ same exterior with updated grill, headlamps and rear spoiler
06+ same interior with exception of a few new nobs

06+ updated Nav program, but overall still kinda dated
06+ may have option of AHC, could be major plus or minus depending on your mods.
06+ TPS Tire Pressure warning light

06+ VVTI Horsepower bump to 275. Nice engine, some feel the power, others do not. Gas mileage suffers a bit
06+ revised braking system (ABS, ATRAC, etc)

06+ Cabin air filter is added (guessing, is this true)?

I crossed shopped the '05 and '06 extensively before I settled on the '06.

In the end, I could not bear driving the '05 due to lack of power, especially at freeways speeds. The '06 is no bruiser, but VVTi makes for a substantially better experience. If you ever want to consider towing with a fully laden vehicle, you'll be sorry you didn't spring for the '06.

Don't let the small power numbers mislead you. VVTi's primary benefit is not peak power (or torque), but the ability to spread that power across the whole powerband. More area under the curve!

Totally different direction

Decided on the 2005 and someone came in and offerred $1000 more than I was willing to pay. Found out the 2006 also was sold.

Found a 2000 LX470 with 46K miles. Started another post discussing some potential issues. In short, the Lexus Dealer is fixing a FE piece and suppose to install new mats (I know, the mats are minor).

They say they did the 30,000 mile service, which costs $1800. Anyone know what you get for $1800?

They are also going to replace the timing belt and water pump, at my request. This increased the cost some, but they discounted it.

Interior looks immaculate and the salesmanager seems to be very straightforward.

Price....$22,500 + TTL

Let me know if I am crazy, please, before I give them any money.

Thanks again for everyone's help.

Hope I don't get in trouble for continuing this post here and not in Buying and Selling.
