Well, I figure it’s time to start an actual build thread. It’s going to be slow, as I’ll only have so much a month to throw at this old girl the family has now dubbed “Lexi”. So far all I’ve done is:
Tomorrow I try to mount a cell phone holder to the driver’s side A-pillar using some scrap kydex and a screw on mount I found on the cheap on Amazon. This will be a budget build, but I will not skimp on routine maintenance, or neglect any mechanical repairs when they are needed. But accessories will be scrounged for free or bought used whenever possible/practical.

On the horizon (in no particular order)
  • Catalytic converter install (the rear most unit was cut off and I need to clear the engine code)
  • Delete the running boards
  • Get rid of this factory navigation unit and out in a new radio
  • Take it off road and figure out how to drive with the traction control/center diff lock (this is a far cry from my old 3rd Gen 4-Runner!), and also tour Old NC 105/check out Linville Falls
  • replace all four blown door woofers/blown rear sub
  • Build a sleeping platform in the rear and make some custom cut, magnetic-mounted mosquito nets
  • Hidden winch unit/Apex 12k pounds from Harbor Freight and a light bar
  • Delete factory tow hitch and figure out how to fab something into the square cutout in the rear bumper.

noticed the rear tailgate fascia that holds the license plate fram was loose in the left side. I disassembled it and found the plastic piece wher one of the screws goes in from the back (inside) was broken. Since the other screws were fine I took a piece of scrap kydex and made a retaining clip. Just one hole, and some heat from a heat gun to mold it with enough curve to hold it in place, and now I don’t need to replace the piece.

I also found out the previous owner put in cheap aftermarket LED tail lights and one of the wires broke (looks like a ground). However I cannot disassemble it to make the repair so I’ll either buy another cheap light to match the other side or buy an OEM set.

So I got Techstream working, and need to chase down these codes…

P0420
P0430
C1201 Engine control system
C1340 Open circuit in Center Differential Lock signal (during center diff lock ON)
C1776 Front wheels speed sensor signal

I think I want to tackle the C1340 & C1776 first. Time to research, but will gladly take any suggestions.

Did you fix codes 1201 and 1340?
I have these codes as well. Point me on the right direction if you’ve fixed them.

I haven’t even addressed them yet. Had a son get married, another graduates next week. It’s been busy.

I removed the running boards and then I took the puddle lights off the running boards. I need to clean them and prepare them for reinstallation because the Mrs likes to see where she’s stepping in the night time.

So replacing my driver’s side, front O2 sensor, all my codes are gone. It cleared everything, including ABS, VSC, & AHC faults.

Got these for camping… can’t wait to try them out!

Also built a platform with 2x8s and 3/4 plywood. It’s pretty much the perfect height for a mattress when the middle seats are folded down.
