Well, I figure it’s time to start an actual build thread. It’s going to be slow, as I’ll only have so much a month to throw at this old girl the family has now dubbed “Lexi”. So far all I’ve done is:
On the horizon (in no particular order)
- Replaced the bald tires it came with after buying some gently used 275/65 Toyo AT/II all terrain tires off of Facebook Marketplace for $300 + mounting/balancing for $20/tire at a local shop
- taken it for a simple shakedown run on a very basic gravel trail called Horse Pasture Road (after replacing a bad valve stem the tire shop didn’t catch) What have you done to your 100 Series this week? - https://forum.ih8mud.com/threads/what-have-you-done-to-your-100-series-this-week.609679/page-1655#post-14381679
- Drained the transfer case to finish refilling in the morning (AND deal with some minor metal shavings that the magnetic plug caught and held, though the collective sense right now is just to monitor the situation) How bad is this??? (‘05 lx470 w/ 312k miles, drain & fill transfer case) - https://forum.ih8mud.com/threads/how-bad-is-this-05-lx470-w-312k-miles-drain-fill-transfer-case.1281078/#post-14383881
On the horizon (in no particular order)
- Catalytic converter install (the rear most unit was cut off and I need to clear the engine code)
- Delete the running boards
- Get rid of this factory navigation unit and out in a new radio
- Take it off road and figure out how to drive with the traction control/center diff lock (this is a far cry from my old 3rd Gen 4-Runner!), and also tour Old NC 105/check out Linville Falls
- replace all four blown door woofers/blown rear sub
- Build a sleeping platform in the rear and make some custom cut, magnetic-mounted mosquito nets
- Hidden winch unit/Apex 12k pounds from Harbor Freight and a light bar
- Delete factory tow hitch and figure out how to fab something into the square cutout in the rear bumper.
