2005 Chevy Tahoe

Whenever I try and fill the gas tank (from EMPTY) i can only get a gallon or two to go in before either the pump shuts off or gas comes flying back up out the filler tube. I can let it "breathe" for a second and try again, but the same thing happens over and over.

I'm thinking that I have some sort of problem in the vapor vent? Maybe?

But what could have caused this? The cold weather? It IS 8 F out today...

Any ideas?

Thanks!

Have you put in any fuel additive lately?

The reason I ask is that I've seen where the little foil seal from one of those additive bottles falls into the filler neck. It's the perfect size to cover the one-way valve at the entrance to the tank. You would have to remove the hose at the tank to access this area.
