I’m going to be trading in a 4Runner for a much bigger SUV. Looking at the new suburban, it’s built like a truck up to 2020 or so, after that it’s the new IRS. I can find really low mileage ‘18-2020 models in my area for decent prices, but also lots of new and low mileage ‘21-24.

I don’t really care one way or the other as far as body style is concerned, but I’m not sure I’m comfortable with the IRS. That seems like a maintenance nightmare on something that heavy compared to a regular rear axle and suspension.

I’m not having much luck finding any good info on how these rear suspensions hold up after any decent amount of miles. Probably not much info out there because it’s so new to the market still, but I would like to know if you guys have any insight or experience with how it hold up long term.
Any thoughts?

Well, they've been using IFS on fullsize SUVs and pickups for years... And I'm not sure I'd be as concerned about an IRS on a SUV as on a pickup, unless you're planning to regularly forklift loads into the rear cargo area or are looking to tow heavy trailers regularly.
