Greeting from the FJ40 side, folks! My first post here in the Tundra section as most of my wrenching has been on my FJ40. However, I also have a 2004 Tundra which I've been trying NOT to wrench on but necessity calls. This is a New England truck and tons of rust as you will see. It turns out there are some transmission leaks of which I'll post some pics. And another leak on the front...I'm not even sure what it is...transaxle?
My first questions is, is the filler tube removable from the transmission drain pan? It seems it is on the V8 model or on certain years and it LOOKS like it is on mine but I've seen other info online that makes it appear to be part of the drain pan. There is lots of rust where it goes into the pan and I'm trying to avoid spending a lot of money and purchasing a whole new pan if the rust is just on the tube. I'm afraid to clean up the area too well just yet as I might puncture the rust area and make the truck immovable and I'm not ready for that/don't want that. Might it be possible to patch this some how...Flex Seal if I can clean up the rust enough? Weld job?
I also seem to have some kind of leak on one of the pressurized tubes going to the transmission. This seems in some ways an easier fix...perhaps it's just loose or just needs a new tube bolted on. I haven't paid that much attention to it yet.
The third leak is the third pic where the rubber boot is on the front axle. I'm not sure what's under the boot. I would have assumed just grease but the leak looks more like oil.
Well, any help appreciated. My descriptions aren't great, I know. Hopefully, the pics say it all. Given so much rust, I'm of course afraid to touch anything.
