2002 Sequoia, tail lamps on my trailer come on very dim for only one minute or less then go out completely. Truck tail lights never have any issues. If I turn off the headlights and then back on they come on dim again then off. 30 amp fuse under hood is good. No noticeable relay clicking when lights go out. Maybe the tow/tail relay in the quarter panel? The dim lights would indicate a ground issue to me normally but I’m stumped on this one.
Ruled out the trailer by getting same results with magnetic towing lamp set I also have on hand. Also ran 12v to the brown tail/running light pin on the trailer and get proper illumination.

I’ve checked the connection under the driver rear tail light behind the bumper with a test light and get the same results of on then off.

Any ideas are greatly appreciated

I had similar issues on my 80. Turned out the converter on the truck trailer wiring kit was bad.

Plug and play harness or a U Haul type “ cut into the wiring” setup?

Most issues like yours are poor connections. Sometimes spending 6 bucks at napa for new connectors, cut off the old stuff and start fresh. If it’s flat 4 wire, those connectors are toast after one winter on your truck.

My landscaping business tows every day and the connectors last about a year before they get cut off and replaced.

If it’s an add on like Funners, could well be a module.

Edit: your Sequoia is an 02 and should have the plug and play harness. My 01 4Runner does. Sounds like bad connections. Easy fix.

If I unplug the factory harness from the factory four wire connector and use a simple test lamp at the brown wire pin under the truck I get the same problem. Leads me to believe the issue is further up the line.

Yeah, that was the first thread I came across when searching. That’s a later truck and his issue was the fuse. My fuse is GTG

I think it’s in the quarter panel. Going to check it tonight.
