Hey everyone! New user here on IH8MUD but I've been a reader of forums posts for the past few months.
My partner and I (located in Australia) acquired a 2001 LC100 with a 1HD-FTE (5sp manual) late last year which is completely stock and has ~320km on the clock. I've spent a bit of time doing some planning and have some parts on the way (unichip, 18G UFI turbo, PDI intercooler, PDI Airbox, X/O manifold delete pipe and a new 3" exhaust).
While waiting for all that to arrive, I went ahead and did a rocker cover gasket replacement because the old one was solid plastic and turning into chips trying to get it off.
While we had it open, my partners dad (Heavy Diesel mechanic) and I did a valve set (following the Toyota Repair Manual) and also did a new timing belt. We were initially going to do the waterpump as well but it looked very new. We completed a full service (all lubricants and filters with genuine toyota parts) when we acquired the vehicle.
Fast forward to after all that was done and we got it all back together, it started to pump blue smoke out the exhaust and was only boosting to around 8psi (the vehicle felt like it was underpowere when we got it, and the previous owner had installed a boost interrupter which is now disconnected).
The smoke was initially only noticeable in 1st-3rd and after sitting idle in traffic, however now it seems to pump out regardless of the gear, so long as the engine is under load. It is not visible at idle, however if I turn the car on and hit idle up, it starts to pump smoke out.
I've pulled the intercooler apart and found a tiny bit of oil in the intercooler and rubber hoses, and there was a little bit inside the intake before the preheater.
I also pulled the PCV hose off and checked it, and there was no blockages, however there is a bit of oil around the bottom end (where it meets the intake, not the crank case side). Taking the hose off and running the engine has a few tiny drops of oil coming out occasionally, but it's not consistent enough to seem like it's causing the problem.
I noted a fair bit of oil around the turbo and under it, which I cleaned off and considerably less has come back, but there's still some. The previous owner said they replaced the turbo recently, and it feels like there is very minimal play in the turbo shaft (pulled off the piping on both sides to check).
Presently, I'm at work, but I will be able to take some photos of whatever is necessary when I get home (approx. 3h from now) to assist in some troubleshooting.
Currently I'm at a bit of a loss for what could be going wrong. Initially my thought was the turbo seals, noting all the oil around and under the turbo.
Another friend of mine called one of his mates who is also a mechanic, and he said it was likely because the valve set was not done correctly, though we definitely did it as per the manual and checked it thoroughly before putting it back together.
Any other suggestions or thoughts?
