I was playing in the sand today very lightly and it goes into low but after some bumps and jars it pops back into neutral... If I had to guess maybe bushings? I can confirm this is the first time I used it I have only had it for a few months and the original owner prob never used it! Also recently I just a full fluid change on all the drive train with synthetic TCase trans and difs so can anyone give me any usual things I should look into? Thanks!

Anyone?

I pulled it pretty firmly I dunno I don't think it's a serious issue I just think it's never been used so maybe some linkage or bushing or something is old I dunno when I get a chance I will further investigate.

I know some are different but just to clarify the correct way to pop it into low is stopped trans in neutral and firmly pull the TCase lever from high to low and then put trans back in gear and proceed? Other 4x4s had to have some motion before shifting into low maybe going like 5mph I think it was my jeep, if that's the case with the 100 then I need to re test it out again but can someone confirm? I am pretty sure I read somewhere to do it the way I did it? Thanks!

I am still having this issue have not had time to look at it has anyone else had this issue? I just recently did all 3 of my motor and trans mounts as well thinking maybe that would help but it still slips out of low 4x4 after about 50feet or driving? Anyone? Anything that is obvious I could check?

The only thing I can think of (assuming you didn't just install a 1.25" body lift ;)): For whatever reason the t-case shift lever rod assembly needs to be inspected for looseness and/or adjustment of the actuator link itself. It sounds, based upon your description, like the lever's position needs to be adjusted/indexed. This is what, mainly, controls the hi/lo position.

That sounds like what it needs!

Ok so I had a local shop diagnose this issue it seemed pretty much like a guess but I have learned that any thing like this or transmission related is all kinda a guess till they rip it apart, BUT they said 2 things one that "Mostlikely" something is broken on the inside of the transfer case and floating around ...? in other words will not know for sure unless they remove and rip it apart?
2nd My transmission needs a rebuild and I was kinda expecting that one because when its cold or sitting for a while if you get in and put it into gear it SLOWLY engages into gear no grinding or anything like that it just slowly gets into gear? So after 193000 miles I am sure its never been rebuilt So i was kinda expecting that... BUT can you please advice me of where and or how to access your suggestion for the Tcase? Who knows maybe if i rebuild the transmission it will fix the tcase issue also? I dunno please advise? ;)

FSM. And if your mechanic can't figure it out...I'd advise looking for a better mechanic. Probably a dumb/more than obvious question but...regarding the AT: Have you checked the fluid level, per the owner's manual, with the vehicle sitting on a level surface to be sure your AT problem isn't fluid level related?

If you were SF Bay or near...then Mudrak would be my recommendation. But don't have any LA area recommendations...

I went to Top Line performance in Huntington Beach nice guys and they work on lots of land cruisers but I kinda think they were too busy to do much diagnosis in addition they did not charge me and just said that they would have to open the TCase to see why it's doing that? And in addition noticed the transmission issue and said might as well rebuild that too since it's half the labor pulling the TCase... And quoted be about a 3-4k job for both... And as for the fluid on the transmission is fine and was recently changed but it had that weird slip before the change and thought the change would help with that. Only other thing that was recommended to me by another transmission shop is to try and reset the transmission and have it relearn by unplugging the battery for like 10 mins and then driving it for 50-100 miles so it can re learn? I guess I can give that a shot since it's free and see if that helps? Thanks for your advice!

Maybe it's something simple... like something obstructing the T-case lever below the console. Remove the console to get a clear view of the linkage. Then drive in LO with the console removed.

Did that but I did not go below the 4 bolts did not know if it was mounted to something and did not want to lose any parts haha, so should I be ok with removing the 4 bolts as well ? Is it just a plate cover? I am going to try and shoot a video today of what it's doing and see if it can be identified! Thanks again for your advice!

I would LOVE for it to be something simple! I can deal with the transmission rebuild if I really have to but both at the same time I would prefer not lol!

Here is some videos I did some in high and some in low and the shifter moves considerably in both but only pops into neutral in low after giving is some gas! Lx470 transmission transfer case issues?:

hmmm...the other items to check: Motor mounts. If one is broken, not totally uncommon on our rigs (see Loud's post about same), it might cause your symptom. Easy enough to eliminate this by visually inspecting the mount #1...and raising the engine about 1-2" to see if the MM separates #2...

Was having the issue before and after I did the motor mounts and I thought that would solve it too but nope ;(
