Hi all,
I am in process of researching to replace my Nakamichi with a Kenwood DMX1057XR head unit.
I intend to reuse the amplifier and speakers.

My questions about the Nakamichi hardness and amplifier:
1. On the hardness, i only see Front / Rear signals and don't see the Sub out signals, so does the amplifier takes Front / Rear signals and choose the cross-over to power the Subs and other speakers? or how does it work?
2. Pin 14: Amplifier:
is this for the antenna amplifier or what? what should i do with this wire?

3. Kenwood DMX1057XR has 3 fre-out: Front, Rear, and Sub. I don't think there is a Sub Right / Sub left input the to factory Amplifier, so if i want to use the sub out, i have to by-pass the factory amplifier?

1. Yes.
2.

The summary is for head unit power you'd need Bat/Acc/Gnd, maybe illum.

For audio, you have the option
  • of running RCA pre-outs to an aftermarket amp
  • or splicing into the factory harness's FR FL RR RL channels.
(You don't have to splice these on an AM amp and there's a better chance you'd be able to eliminate EMI noise that happens often with the bypass option)
For the park sensor there's the splice to GND bypass and for the backup camera's activation there are a couple of methods to do this (such as backup light wiring or more invasive splices into ECU wiring).

Chances are if you spent $1000 on a HU, you should get an amp, new woofers and tweeters.

TLCfaq you've linked is a good resource on wiring.

Finally had sometime to remove the Nakamichi on my 2000 LX and replace it with a Kenwood dmx1057xr with backup camera.
I keep the original amp and speakers.
Very happy with the result.
