Hello,
The LX470 (2000) I recently bought has only one key (with working remote).

Where do you guys suggest I get a pair of spare keys?
I should be getting the cable for TechStream this week, so I have that if needed.

Yet where can I
#1 source the blank keys + remote
#2 have they keys cut per my current key

Thank you for your help!

For example, in this website, LexusPartsNow.com, they have this key.
Will this work as a "master key"?
Will the remote unlock the car, and the key start-up the engine?

And another question: How does this website "cut" the key?
Do I send them photos/scans of my key?

Couple of things I've learned in the last couple of weeks.
Unlocking the doors and starting the vehicle are two different programming issues.
You can get your key code from Lexus with your VIN and that will help with getting the right key cut.
There are some posts/threads floating around with suggestions on buying cheap keys that you program yourself. I'm on my phone right now which doesn't make it easy to find those. If you do a search you should be able to find them but if not I will try to post them tomorrow or Tuesday

Purchase a key with the remote door lock control from Amazon. Should be like 25$ for two. Then take the keys to a hardware store or somewhere that can cut them based on the old key you already have. Then follow the programming directions using tech stream.

These work great.

The key you linked to is listed as a sub key. You cannot open the glove box with it and there is no remote. It can be programmed as a master though.

Edit:
The keys I linked to are the long blade style. I am pretty sure year 2000 uses the short blades.

@Mauser, I had great service from Spare Car Keys Website . I had only one key since I bought our LX but I needed an extra key for :princess: and a spare key. I supplied the key code as the original oem break-off key id's came with the truck. They can also get a key code via the VIN, iirc. They will ask you for ownership verification if you don't supply the code. I got the keys in < a week, they worked perfectly.

Can I get the key code via TechStream and hooking it up to the car?
Or is the keycode anywhere else located?
I really don't want to take the vehicle to the dealership.

The answer to your question is no.

If you already have a key cut you dont need it.

A lot of locksmiths can cut your keys. There are also places that can cut from a picture. 1010keys is one. Both can also cut from the vin if you don't have a key. The code is also stamped on the door lock inside.

If you have techstream and a master key, programming is simple.

I went to a local locksmiths shop and he cut me a new key and programmed it for around $60.

Can someone give me a hint as to *where* is the key-code located on the lock?
I removed the door panel, yet did not remove the lock.

Where is the code stamped on the lock barrel?
Do I have to remove the lock/handle from the door?
I searched for photos online, yet got nothing.

Thank you in advance

On my daughter's RX300 I pulled the lock from the passenger door. It was stamped on the side of the barrel.

Do you not have a key to copy? Do you not have a locksmith close that can copy your key? It would be easier to have a key cut to the vin if you dont have one to copy.

I ordered some keys from an online seller (1010keys on ebay), and included in the price is having them cut they keys.
Yet, they need the code.

Thank you for your reply.
I will pull the lock today and check for the code.

Gotcha. I thought 1010 could cut from a picture.

I am unable to register the new key with Techstream either.

At the end of the process, the security light below the radio is still blinking, and Techstream usefully states that the registration failed.

I am going bananas with this.
Any suggestions/procedures?

Thank you

Is the key your truck came with a master?

I'm not sure.
I only got one key.
This key does open all doors, locks the glovebox, and fires up the engine.

Other than that, any way I can verify?
Thanks for the help.
Much appreciated.

Watch the security light as you insert the key into the ignition. If it goes out as soon as the key is inserted it is a master. If it stays lit solid for a couple of seconds it is a valet.

I just confirmed, and yes, the key I have is a Master Key.
The light goes out immediately after I insert it.

Question which might resolve all this:
1010keys sold me a cut-key with the empty shell for the remote.

Does this work to get programmed?
I am trying to program this new cut key, with nothing inside the shell.
I though the key's chip was embedded on the key's metal.
Yet I saw a video last night where the guy moved over the shell's internals to a new key, then programmed it (successfully).

Am I wasting everybody's time here by trying to program a cut key with an empty shell?
