Hello. I’m new to this forum and not too familiar with the LC. I actually need to replace the timing belt and water pump. Any recommendations on where to purchase and what items are required for this maintenance? Thx so much and much appreciated.

Buy the Aisin set. Only correct choice:

https://www.amazon.com/Aisin-TKT-021-Engine-Timing-Water/dp/B008EEYWKI

Buy an OEM main seal and fan bracket. Optionally, you can replace the serp belt tensioner, idler, and fan clutch, but those can always be changed later. Fan bracket and main seal require tearing it all down again if you don't do them now, so don't skimp!

Mostly normal hand tools. You will need a 12mm flare nut wrench for the fan clutch bolts. If you try to remove them with a regular open box wrench, you WILL round then off. Some people make their own crank holding tool, I just bought the Lexus/Toyota crank holder from Lisle. You will need a torque wrench that can accurately hit at least 180ft/lbs. Download the 2004 FSM .pdf floatng around the web. It's not all the correct torque values in it you need. There is also a good writeup in this site somewhere.

If you are anywhere near 200K replace everything while your in there. Get a complete Aisin kit, get Toyota cam seals and crank seal.
You can buy an Aisin fan bracket instead of Toyota maybe a cam and crank sensor if budget is not an issue. Don't forget a new Serp. belt.
and thermostat.

Is this always done when the timing belt is changed? I know my timing belt was done at 180k but I do have a “whirring” noise coming from up front near the tensioner/water pump on cold starts. Usually lasts a few minutes then goes away.

I what always done? My 2000 "had the timing belt changed' by previous owner. All he did was replace the actual belt, not the tensioner, not the water pump. If you think you need it, don't trust what anyone tells you unless you have a receipt showing every part.

Toyota fan bracket is just the Aisin bracket in a Toyota box, with markup. :) Same manufacturer.

Do u happen to have part numbers or where I can find them for the cam / crank seals? Thx!

Aisin and denso are partially owned by toyota. Both make parts according to toyota's standards and they sell parts according to their standards as well.

Go to Camelbacktoyota parts and select the year and model. To make sure give Jorge at Camelback with the VIN and he will help you.

Is there a tensionser idler kit you'd recommend? Amazon has this one: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B012EJ3BU0/ref=ox_sc_act_title_3?smid=ATVPDKIKX0DER&psc=1

Hi, this kit includes the serp belt tensioner and idler correct?
