I've encountered a really strange issue with my 2016 Land Cruiser (130K miles, no accidents or prior problems), and I'm curious if anyone else has experienced something similar. Last Saturday, when I started my car, the A/C was off. I pressed "Auto" to activate the climate control, and suddenly, all the warning lights on the dashboard lit up, including the Pre-collision malfunction warning. I pulled over, turned the car off, and restarted it, and the lights disappeared, with the A/C working fine.

The next day, however, the A/C wasn’t working again. I went into the climate control menu and noticed it was off. As soon as I pressed the A/C display button, the windshield wipers activated once, and the dashboard lights came on again, but this time, the A/C didn’t turn on at all. The following day, the same thing happened, but instead of the A/C not working, it kept cycling on and off every five seconds.

I took it to my local shop, and my mechanic pulled codes 22 and 49, both related to the A/C. It was beyond what my local mechanic could handle, so I brought it to the dealership. They’ve had it for two days and still can’t figure it out. They say the A/C compressor and everything under the hood look fine—nothing appears out of order. I’m starting to think it might be the head unit or possibly some damage to the wiring harness, maybe even from a mouse chewing through it. Still not sure, and I’m wondering if anyone else has encountered gremlins like this with their Land Cruiser. For the record, I’ve never had any issues with my LC and absolutely love it.

How's the battery health? Mine would have some funky stuff pop up on the dash, changed the battery, and like new.

It's been garaged pretty much it's whole life. Battery is in good health, alternator is solid and nothing water-wise out of the ordinary. Every now-and-then I bring it to the car wash, but have never experienced any issues with that.

Follow-up post: The dealer found the cause was a one of the wires running along the floor that was grounding-out, along with a capacitor. Fixed and back to normal...glad I'm out of that Rav4. Thanks all for the comments and suggestions

If you don’t mind me asking, what was the bill?
