Is the remote start feature supposed to work on the door locks the same way it does on with the remote (2 quick pushes on lock and hold on third)? My wife was messing around with the rear hatch latch mechanism, basically hitting the two buttons there, when the engine started. Scared the crap out of her. Unless I am looking in the wrong spot, I am not seeing it mentioned in the manual.

Thanks for the help.

To remote start.

  1. Press the LOCK button on the remote.
  2. Press the LOCK button a second time within 1 second.
  3. Press the LOCK button again, this time holding it for 3 seconds. The engine will start.

Yep...I have that down using the fob. We are used to that with the wife's GX. The thing that surprised us was when we happened to do the same sequence using the lock button on the tailgate (not the fob) and the engine started.

It's a remote start option typically installed by dealer.

That's what I was afraid of. The dealership I bought is from had mentioned a Karr Security module they used for vehicles on their lot but they had said my LC never had it installed. I'm wondering if I was given bogus info.

My 2013 LC came off the truck to the dealer with the Remote Start option installed. The key fob has a "Remote Start" sticker on it and the key ring with all the keys had a hard plastic card with the remote start instructions on it (and a Toyota logo). So I have no doubt the remote start system I have on mine is genuine Toyota.

I tried several times to start mine using the lock switch in the tailgate - it won't start. I get a short beep for the first two presses of the lock button and then a long beep after holding the third press of the lock button for a couple of seconds. No way it's going to start using the lock button in the tailgate.

Sounds to me like you might have some third party (not OEM Toyota) remote start hardware installed on your truck.

Although not definitive proof one way or the other of the authenticity of your remote start system, mine has the following sticker on the underside of my hood (the sticker on the left):

Does yours? If not, your remote starter system may not be genuine Toyota.

Thanks gaijin...I do not have that sticker so looks like I have some aftermarket stuff the dealership neglected to tell me about.

You can go to the dealer and ask for a build sheet. The remote start and gbs show on it. If you have all of your paperwork, you should have a VIP remote start manual as well.

Found this under the panel below steering wheel. When flipped to "off" the remote start does not work

That's too bad -- the one thing that could have been better than OE...
