Who else has noticed an uptick in 200 prices the past 6 months? About a year ago, I was seeing 08-09s with 70-99k listed in the 31-35k range. Fast forward to now, those mode years are typically 100k+ miles and 35-39k!

I've noticed it too.

I wonder if it has something to do with the fact that Toyota is not introducing a new body style. I would assume that whenever a new body style is released, many want to dump their car for the newest generation, dropping the prices (supply vs. demand). I would think that just speculation that there could be a new design, would have an effect.

Gas prices may also play a contributing factor. Since prices have been dropping, more and more people probably can justify driving a luxury SUV that gets 18 MPG on a good day. More people wanting 200's = lower supply / higher demand = higher prices.

There are probably a lot of factors at work, but those are just a few of my guesses. The good news, is that those of us that already have 200's can sit back and relax with a big smile on our face.

Never buy a truck just before winter - regardless of where you are located in North America. Prices are usually high before the snow falls, lower after the snow melts.

Also, if/ when a new body style comes out then prices will get out of the flat line they are generally in now. Just speculation but we'll see. It happens to every other vehicle I've followed.

It's the federal reserve printing money like crazy and causing our dollar to devalue lol... Or land cruiser are just a hot commodity

It's gotta be gas related! I've been filling up for 2.30s in Nashville. Within 100 miles on autotrader, zero 08-10 200s. I also found zero 93+ 80s. I searched 93-10 and only found 2 100s, so not sure if everyone is buying LCs at year end or what.

Supply and demand. Economy tanked right when the 200 series came out, so not many sold not many used available for resale. More of us 200 series nuts then 200 series available. This will continue to keep the price up. Also it's been announced in Truck Trend, that the upcoming GX will be made on the LS platform making it rear wheel drive and unibody. That will make the LX the only body on frame for Lexus. Have not heard about the 4Runner but it is a 6 cylinder. But even fewer LC sold here then LX's. I don't think anyone can go wrong buying a used 100 or 200 series, safe, dependable and will continue to have top resale value and low cost of ownership.

Anyone else find resale value overvalued?

They all take a dump in price especially if you drive them. Especially if you beat on them ih8 style.

Nope. When I bought my 100 in 1998 it cost me $56k. A comparable Range Rover was $65k. When I sold it after 16 years and 331k miles, with very little out of pocket for non-maintenance repairs, I still got $7500. That 1998 Range Rover, if it still ran at those miles, would have been under $2000. People pay for real quality so I am not surprised by how well 100s and 200s hold their value.

Those are some incredible numbers. 16 years and 331K??? Awesome. Thanks for sharing.

I guess I need to keep this thing long enough to feel the weight of dollars and cents retained in my wallet, but I have a feeling in 16 years time, we'll be so far removed from gas powered engines that a mid teens mpg 3 ton truck will have gone out of fashion. And by then, I'm going to be so old I'm not sure I'm going to care all that much. LOL

In the meantime, the 200 is a friggin' beast! Even filled out the JD Power survey and I never do that.

Also 5k oil changes every time.

Trying to decide if I should switch to synthetic 5W-30 in my 100. Did you use synthetic or dino in your 100 to get that kind of longevity?

I took it to my Toyota dealer and said 'change the oil'. They put in whatever was needed. When I was out of the country I took enough Toyota brand oil and a filter if I thought I would need an oil change on the trip. Nothing special.

However, 5k miles was my outside limit, usually during a long trip. I usually changed the oil every 3000 miles.

I never spent a lot of time thinking of it. I just followed Toyota maintenance guidelines to a T. I focused all my energies on going somewhere cool, not worrying about the trivia of oil changes.

^Sounds like a smart plan. Sorry for the thread jack OP.
