I'm looking for an exhaust downpipe that come off the manifold and combines into one (eliminating the the weird pipe that runs outside the frame rail) and then goes into one cat. I had found such a product at one point and now can't locate it. If someone can point me to a company name or website would be great.

Wow, you read my mind, that cat has got to go. My muffler is cracking and falling off so i need a new exhaust anyways. I just assumed id have to go custom. It would be great if i could find it prefabbed.

i'd definietly be interested in this, as well. i'm planning on headers very soon (this motor seems so choked) and if i can 'streamline' the system at that point, all the better. i assume it was still a 2" into 2.5" 'Y'?

I made a complete 2.5" maifold back exhaust for 250 including cat and muffler with parts I got from the local hotrod shop. It was my first exhaust ever and only took about 9 hours to complete. So if you have any welding skills or a good buddy who does this should be a rather reasonable option.

Anybody in Tucson that wants one , that could prolly be negotiated....

What do you think a good shop would charge for a new manifold back exhaust? I gotta get my truck inspected this month and it would be nice to have it fixed. Just wondering what you guys would say is reasonable.

What'd you do about the O2 sensors?

For the O2 sensors, some think that they should stay in their respective locations ie, one O2 for the first three and one for the second 3 cyl. I had mine done with the O2 sensors in one pipe, nearly the same distance they were origionally. I get the same mileage as before. No engine codes. Plugs are cocoa brown. Passes emmisions with flying colors.

I took a chance doing this, but it worked out.

I would go custom. Exhaust systems for this truck are unreasonably expensive. The guy at our local exhaust shop refused to even look under my truck because he said it wasn't worth the money. You should be able to get a standard y-pipe at about any auto parts store i would think. I'll probably put new exhaust on my truck this summer, but our state doesnt have any true emissions laws, so i'll probably leave the cats off.

update

Since my last post I went by two shops and got estimates. (FYI SOR.COM has a great exploded schematic of the orginial exhaust which helped explain what I wanted) They both came in with a quote of $350- $400 bucks with me supplying the cat and muffler. I ordered a cat from Summit that has 2 inlets at 2 inches each and one exit at 2.5 inches and a muffler together they cost $120. So it looks like I'll be at around $500 when all is said and done.

I cut mine off up in the engine bay and brought them together as one pipe. I used 2.5" pipe up to the muffler and 3" from the muffler back.

My o2 sensors are in the single pipe. I measured from the exaust manifold and put the o2 sensors the same distance from there as they were in the origional pipes. I havn't had a catalytic in 3 years, so that wasn't an issue. I had an issue with the rear o2 sensor getting in the way of the transmission shift input and had to move it up about 1.5".

I haven't seen any ill affects. I did notice that it is a little bit quieter with the pipes in together vs. when they were in the stock location with no cats and the same muffler. I am using a Dynamax Super Turbo muffler. A buddy has a flowmaster and it is a good bit louder.

I did this in two stages. Add it all up and I spent about $400. If I lived with salty roads I would have done stainless, probably about $1200. Any decent muffler shop that does custom work should be able to do it for you. Look for a hot rod in the parking lot.. they won't charge you much because compared to working on a hot rod our trucks have so much room it makes the job really easy.
