IF that is the case you probably should be using the ester oil.
Gieser said:...Now the compressor came pre-oiled from Toyota which could have been for R-12, but we have evacuated 3 times since then and the oil replaced I believe was the ND-Oil 8, but I will confirm.

Bear80 said:Ester oil is compatible with R12 oil and R134 oil (oil 6 and oil 8). So if your parts such as the compressor came pre-filled with oil and it was for a ’93 R12 system then you need to use Ester oil. Otherwise a new R134 system will use the PAG 46 oil.
When the system is under pressure and you have a leak, oil will be lost with the freon but usally no oil is lost when you evac the system.
Never mind, I thought he said oil was replaced during evacuation. Thanks Tools.
If you read the TSB that medtro posted above, ND-OIL 8 / PAG-46 is the Toyota recommended oil for a retrofit.
Gieser said:Are we saying then that no matter what the system has, go ahead and use the ND-OIL 8/PAG-46?
Gieser said:I meant to say seperately, but they have not evact the oil, which is a different process.
R12 system needs ND-OIL 6 for R134A and retrofits ND-OIL 8. I haven't seen Toyota recommend ester oil for anything?
Tools R Us: One point I don't agree with is leaving the old oil in. It may not hurt, but that oil uselessly circulating takes up volume that could be freon and it's not hard to remove most of it.
