Hey Everyone,
Was part of a Pathfinder recall last year and after losing our trusty 01 Pathy - bought back by Nissan, upgraded to a 2003 LC100 with 45,500 miles.
Many thanks to this site as the info I learned from the members regarding LCs' reliability made the purchase a no brainer.
Outside a coat of POR 15 on the undercarriage, she remains pretty stock as shes' the wifeys' daily driver and is solid as can be. Getting slee'd out and running board removal will have to wait but I'm working on it.
Anyways took it to the outer banks to do some beach driving and after one particular sandy section (one and half foot of sand) I couldn't proceed and just reversed and took a different route - didnt shift to low or anything, just remained in D the whole way.
After that I begin to notice a noise that sounds like a fan coming on from the trans area. When it happens the LC trans acts like its running thru dough then its gone as the RPMS climb.
No fan actually comes on, the noise just sounds like it. It is more apparent during colds starts and appears only after accelerating from a stop. The whole way home I didn't notice it but then again we drove at highway speeds most of the way. The noise comes on at low RPMS (below 2,000) then disappears.
Mileage is a couple hundred short of 60,000 now and the maintenance light during start up flashes but then goes away otherwise all else is normal. Did my beach driving break something? Appreciate any feedback.
Below is a pic of our 100 - lost a wheel cap during our adventures.
