My 1996 Prado is a big ass mess with a blown head gasket (confirmed by a mechanic who did a smoke test?-I think). But no white smoke and no over heating. I drove it a short distance today and noticed it wasn’t consuming coolant like I would suspect for a vehicle with a blown head gasket. Turns out the top radiator hose is hot but bottom is not (as well as the bottom of the radiator was not hot). The coolant was nasty. I flushed it 3 times but still the same problem. I ran it with out the cap and rev’d the engine. This would over flow the radiator into a funnel. So I assume the water pump is working. I’m guessing the radiator could be clogged in places from the nasty gunk that was in my overflow reservoir? Dunno, kinda at a loss.

Simple enough to remove the radiator and have a shop test it. If it needs replacing check out my build thread, there is a link to where to buy a replacement radiator.

Gotcha, makes sense. I may drain everything and pull the thermostat and do the boil test. And fill it back up and run it with out the thermostat to see if the bottom hose gets hot then.
