I recently got the green light from the wife to swap two of our vehicles over to diesel. One being our 2007 sequoia limited and the other being our suburban. For the sequoia I have decided to go with the 1KZ-TE. Does anyone know if it will bolt up t the A750F? If not, is there any adapter plates? Thank you.

Man... is the 1KZ-TE going to be able to push the 3 ton Sequoia in any competent fashion? Have you thought about a larger displacement engine? I don't think a 4 banger is going to be up for the job.

Definitely don't put a 1KZ into a Sequoia! Way too big of a vehicle for that little engine. That engine is really only suitable for 2nd gen 4runners and hiluxes, which are both much lighter. It is also known to have overheating and head crack problems. Stick with a direct injection turbo engine.

As said above, a 1HDT is the only way to go for a Sequoia. Or look to a domestic big displacement diesel.

I had a KZ in a 2nd gen 4runner great motor...go manual if you put it in...
Look at specs....it is a strong motor.

I would not hesitate to put in a 60 series but a tree might be too much

I had a 3rd gen Hilux Surf with 1KZ-TE, it was a good motor in that platform, WAY underpowered for a Sequoia though.

Thank you for the reply...I was talking to an JDM engine importer and they told me that would be the way to go. Where would a guy source a 1HDT and are they reasonable? What would be a good domestic motor that I can also source an adapter plate and motor mounts? I'm not a fabricator. Anyone here up to the work?

1HDT-FE with the A750 is what I would go for.

Man....woah....slow down. You're in uncharted territory.

First thing to do is slap your JDM guy...he's an idiot. A 1kz...? In a Sequoia??

Going domestic is your best chance.

Yeah the conversion won't be cheap using a toyota diesel ..but you know what they say good things aren't cheap & cheap things aren't good.
If you get lucky you can pick up a 1HD-FTE for $6-8K aud.

Going for a non toyota motor I'd say your best bet would be a cummins 6bt or similar.

But it also begs the question why keep the sequoia & not just get a factory landcruiser with a 1HDT already in it..there are a few Canadians on mud with them.

Here is some research I did, took about 20 minutes...Apart form the adapter plate issue, I think the 1KZ-TE is a viable option. I live in a remote area and have to travel 150 miles round trip to get groceries and other supplies for my family. The Sequoia is nearly paid for and is very nice and I love the thing. With the harsh LONG winters + driving distance it is important for us to have the AWD option other than having to lock the case. Also living in North Dakota, having a LandCruiser is over kill for what I would ever need, if we ever moved to MT or back to AZ, a LC would be priority. The main purpose for the build is fuel economy. I could care less about performance, otherwise I'd keep the 2UZ-FE in as it runs flawlessly....So here's the numbers. If anyone feels I have missed something please let me know.

2007 Sequoia

MOTOR: 2UZ-FE
WEIGHT: 5100LBS (BEFORE SWAP)
XFER CASE RATIO: HI 1.000 LOW 2.570
AXLE RATIO: 4.10

TRANS GEAR RATIOS/SPEED @ 2500RPM

2ND 2.042 @ 27.15 MPH
3RD 1.400 @ 39.6 MPH
4TH 1.000 @ 55.5 MPH
5TH 0.716 @ 77.43

1994 KZJ78W (LAND CRUISER PRADO) SX WIDE

MOTOR: 1KZ-TE
WEIGHT: 5224LBS
XFER CASE RATIO: HI 1.000 LOW 2.295
AXLE RATIO: 4.30
TIRE SIZE: 29.61
TRANS GEAR RATIOS/SPEED @2500RPM
1ST 2.804 @ 18.26MPH
2ND1.531 @ 33.45 MPH
3RD1.000 @ 51.21 MPH
4TH0.753 @ 68.01 MPH

After a swap for the 1KZ-TE into the Sequoia I estimate the Sequoia will be 300-400LBS lighter (not sure of weight difference from 2UZ-FE and 1KZ-TE) than the Prado that runs the 1KZ-TE...As I mentioned, this is not for performance or off-roading...It is in favor of simplicity, economy and the versatility of diesel fuel. Couple that with the price quote of $3500 for a low mileage, turn key 1KZ-TE shipped to my door, it makes sense...I am more than open to Cummins 4bt or Isuzu 4bd1....I just like the idea of staying all Toyota and making it close to a "Factory" build as possible. Also as one guy mentioned, this is uncharted territory, meaning that nobody really knows if it will work or not. I am not bent on staying with the 1KZ-TE, I just want to know all my options. I've never driven a Prado with the 1KZ-TE, but I know my fj80 is an absolute dog, and I am more than fine with that so long as this build brings the fuel economy...

1KZ-TE it's a great engine and in any prado it's a good power plant .. I mean it's not a race truck but it does pretty good, you can nail it on any flat road and in no time you will find yourself letting the skinny pedal alone to slow down a bit ..

If your hell bent on sticking a 1KZ in there don't let me talk you out of it..but at least talk to your importer guy to get you a third generation prado 1KZ-FTV motor being 170hp & 300 ft/lb over the 129hp 1KZ-TE.

Also came with 5 speed auto & 6 speed manual , so no conversion necessary as far as motor to box.
They were also assembled in Colombia ..so maybe you can locate a half cut there, It would be easier to ship from South America to Canada than from Japan or Australia I would think.

Tapage might even find you one for a spotters fee:D

We don't get the Sequoia here in Australia , but we get the hilux ..now a mate has one we load the sh!t out of with trailer , dogs, bikes, guns, camping gear, fuel ..I don't know what it weighs loaded up like that but it manages pretty good & would have to be heavier than an unloaded 80 series.

Btw , the hilux also has the 1KZ-FTV.

There is no 1KZ-FTV. That is a 1KD-FTV in the Hilux and D4D Prado.

The 1KZ variants are 1KZ-T and 1KZ-TE (E is electronic injection pump). They are 8 valve and indirect injection.
The 1KD-FTV is the same basic block, but 16 valves, commonrail direct injection and have a variable vane turbocharger.

It will be a lot of electrical work to get either engine working as intended. It will be easier to convert the 1KZ to mechanical injection.

Yes, your correct ..that was a typo error. And I also agree wiring wouldn't be an easy task ( well unless your a sparky I guess) especially the FTV.
A lot of parts are interchangeable I'm aware but as to what isn't I couldn't say ..I don't muck around with this engine.
