I have a couple of questions.

1-Would the A440, if equipped with a diesel specific valve body and torque converter, bolt up to a 1HZ?

2-If not, what would be needed to accomplish this?

I can't seem to find any posts indicating that the 1HZ ever had an auto. I know the 1HD-T comes with an A442. And I'm pretty sure that the 1HD series shares a bellhousing with the 1HZ engines. But, I have heard of differences with flywheels and other back end pieces between the two.

I think the 1HZ had the A442 in the 80 series also. I think if you got the drive plate off a 1HD T auto it would bolt to the 1HZ.
Wholesale autos would know the exact parts needed

Here in Panamá several HZJ80 come factory mated to a A442 ... not sure ( at least never see one here ) with the A440F ..

The diference between 1HZ and 1HD-T engines with manual trannys come from 275 mm vs 300mm clutch and 14 to 21 splines ..

Interesting that the 1HD-T come with 300mm clutch but 14 coarse splines ..

what else is interesting is that according to EPC the HD and HZ appear to share the same flywheel. I guess it would have to be ground differently. If this is the case you could use an HD clutch with the HZ engine and an HD trans - or mix/match.

Ive not tried it (yet) but I read somewhere that the HZ bellhousing pattern is the same as the FZFE engine though there may be length bh differences . A trans from a 3F might work, but you would need to change the bellhousing becuase the starters are on different sides and Im sure the pattern is different.

Actually you can found 1FZ-FE ( like mine ) with H151 tranny that it's the same that come with the 1HD-T engine .. both share the 300mm clutch and 14 coarse splines ..

I thought the bellhousing share the same bolt pathern for 1FZ and 1HD with A442 ..
