Hey guys, just fitted an aftermarket oil pressure gauge to read more accurately in psi, bit worried about the reading. My standard factory oil pressure gauge in the dash works fine and properly but the aftermarket gauge reads 42psi at idle then 36-40 psi between 1000-3000rpm, clearly wrong. I did tap into the dash wiring for the sensor Unit wire. Anyone know what's wrong? I'm stumped.

Was it a good quality gauge?

is it a mechanical or electrical gauge, best is to put an adapter piece between the original sender and make a direct line, like this and in the remaining opening you put your new sensor connected to your new gauge

I've got a 95 HZJ75. I installed a new sender and the oil pressure gauge in the instrument cluster was ready better than ever, then just stopped working altogether after a few weeks... The new sender is fine when connected to an external gauge like you have done and every other gauge in the cluster works fine... Gremlin...

Try another gauge mate, Autometer maybe...

Found the problem, the oil pressure sender unit was not replaced to suit the aftermarket gauge. Went on to change them out and the t piece snapped off inside the block. Got the easy-outs and started to extract the remaining thread, then the mount decided to break apart... Not having much luck with this one. Am goin to hit a tapered section into the block as a temporary solution. Any suggestions on a permanent one? Perhaps tig weldin the tapered section to the block or tapping out a new thread into the block or welding a boss onto the block? Those area three ideas.
