Why are you changing over?
In brief: Because my 1HDT is a complete POS.
Longer: I exchanged a very high mileage 1HDT against a completely rebuilt one. That thing created nothing but problems. It shook and vibrated and we could never figure out why.
Then it burned up because my turbo pumped a ton of oil into the engine and it started to run on that.
So we rebuilt it completely again, new everything including the crank, sleeved the cylinders to go back to standard size, whatever. Completely rebuilt injection pump and injectors...
Then the overflow started bubbling, the head was tested and found to be cracked. So I put a brand new head on. Oh Joy.
200 miles later oil started to show up in the rad overflow. That did it and I decided to throw it out.
The only explanation I have is that this engine had a horrible maintenance history, and every time I fix something, the next weak link breaks. I have enough of it. The only thing still left to exchange is the block, and I don't feel like doing that.
I will be parting it out soon, anyone needs 1HDT parts? Pump? Head? Injectors? manifolds/turbo for turbo kit...I'll create thread then...
Then I found a 1HDFT on craigslist SF of all places, and bought it. When we opened the engine up, it turned out to be brans spanking new, as in never run. So I am building that up, finding the missing parts, and putting it into my truck, with an intercooler and a G-turbo.
