Hey guys... Just wanted to thank you all for the info on ATEB's. Being very new to the cruiser community.. I needed a place that I could trust. Not only that.. Wanted a place that I could get the best mods done. Needless to say.. After the big end bearings are done and the routine once over maintenance look... The 3" exhaust and the rod mod is getting completed. They sure know how to upsell there!!! Cheers guys. B.

Welcome to MUD! :D

Post up pics of your ride!

Ha! Try to control yourself, it is a slippery slope you are approaching... It is fun to 'mod out' these trucks but you really don't need to do too much to them overall once they are running right. Or you could be like most of us and get so financially backwards in your 'Cruiser that you will have to be buried in it! Welcome!

I've tweaked the off boost fuel screw a bit to get a little more fuel off the line, this improved the sluggish starts after turning the fuel down.

Quick question: where is the off boost screw in comparison to the total fuel screw?

Also - I watched your youtube video above ^ ... nice video! Except for the part where you hear the SNAP... bye bye birf :frown: I recognise that noise.

Thanks, the birf was done before it broke, I was just milkin it.

I can't rememberfor sure where the off boost was, I did it a couple years ago, if you search the diesel section you'll find the info. I remember it being on top and easier to adjust then the main fuel, but the screw functions differently where as one full turn is back to where you started and so on unlike the main fuel screw.

Thanks for the heads up guys..I am somewhat getting use to the slippery slope of the mod/upgrade life. That was my reason for getting rid of the jeep. Needed the extra space...wanted the 4x4 capabilities. And really who could say no to a diesel. Thanks for the welcome too..hope to head to the next meet. Cheers. B.

I think the difference between the two is that the Cruiser gets upgrades, the Jeep gets more replacement parts. :D

I should have just read this:

In case you haven't seen it before: all you ever wanted to know about tuning our diesel pumps: http://www.stonefisk.com/doc-arc/def_man/ThermoGuard_Tdi_Tuning_Rev.2.pdf

Before asking... it's all in there, in the boost compensator.

I've only driven about 5-10 km, but I can tell you that my truck feels MUCH different now. It wants to rev and it doesn't kind of hit a wall around 2000 rpm. I drive pretty slow, so I never have really put my foot down to get it over that RPM level. Now it just breezes right through it....or maybe that's just me because it feels a lot faster :D

The exhaust has a nice sound to it, but surprisingly it doesn't seem much louder than it was before except at idle. What is noticeable is that you can hear the turbo spool a lot more now, and I LOVE IT!!!

I'm interested to see what the difference is in fuel economy. Time will tell.

Highly recommend this mod and the 3" exhaust!!!!! :)

Mines at ateb right now for the power rod and other things. Hope to have it tmrw. Monster, where did John mount your gauge on your dash? 3 inch exhausts are awesome.

I swear it's quieter on the highway also. Which way did you get it run, through the front wheel well or along the inside of the frame?

I guess I saw your truck in there when I picked up mine. I had them do some other work on mine as well since it was in there :)

Right side. I think this is the best place for it if you only have one gauge. It's out of the way but readily visible. The wires also just go down the side, so you don't have to take the dash apart or have wires visible to have the gauge on your dash. Here's a pic

Inside frame :) John mentioned he usually slaps a piece of rubber over the old gap, but he doesn't have any left at the moment, so I'll have to pick some up.

I like the angle better our the back too. However, I don't think pedestrians will :D LOL

I took a video as well, but I've never posted on you tube, so I'll see if I can get loaded on there :)

Cool, yea I shoulda gone that route.... Exhaust would prob last longer... I have to get work on my A/C lines so I didn't want it in the way even though flanges would have fixed that. But hey I can always get it moved, John won't complain lol

Any reason for the pyro post-turbo?

Cheers!

Huh? You have to have work done so you didn't go that way? Because of heat or access?

Don't know, you'd have to ask John. Does it actually make a significant difference for how close it is to the turbo outlet? Looks like it's only about 4" away.

Damnit, this video is taking forever to upload!!!

My fridge isnt hooked up and so for cool factor I picked up the lines too it (I have to clue why they are not there but it looks like it was deleted at a dealer or factory in japan) My R12 is low anyway so when I convert to R134a or such I will see it I can get the damn thing to work, so far all the electronics work so here is hoping the line that was there prior was fudged.

If I went inside rail it looked as if it would have been a PITA to sort out the fridge issue.

As for the Pyro John prob has his reasons, Ive seen him put them in the Manifold too. From reading through 'Mud people put them in either spot and get different temp readings. I will have to ask him next meeting.

Okay... The 3" and the power rod make a world of difference. Monster.. I think John was showing me your new 3-in1 gauge when I went to pick mine up. Man .. Do they ever know how to upsell. I already had to cut off my left arm for the repairs and the upgrades... And here he's looking for the right now! :-) anyways.. Much recommended upgrade.

I picked up my truck with the power rod and Ateb's tuning yesterday. For the first time EVER, I actually accelerated up both the cut and the big hill at Furry Creek. On both hills I was going about 90 km/h at the bottom and over 100 km/h at the top (and that's with my loaded drawer set and steel ARB roof rack, and not even flooring it). Prior to this I would end up RPMs cranked in 3rd gear and 75-80km/h about 2/3s of the way up.

Before, during casual city driving, I'd dread locking the torque converter in fourth because it would mean the end of my reasonable acceleration. Not anymore. There's a bunch more power available at low RPM when torque converter locked in 4th.

Also, flooring it off a red light is a lot more fun.

I can't speak for fuel consumption but I know for sure the way I was driving yesterday I was using a lot. I just couldn't help myself. Once I tone down the lead foot, I should realize some mileage improvements.

I recommend this mod.

Having the pyro probe before or after the turbo makes a huge difference both in the temps you'll see, as well as how quickly the gauge responds. Post turbo expect the temps to show about 200 deg lower. Having mine in the manifold (pre turbo) I can make it snap up to 1200deg (or more :whoops:)in a big hurry, though you can really see it go down quick when you back out of the throttle. The big key is to remember that what you're seeing in the manifold it quite a bit hotter than in the pipe after the turbo.
