Wanted 1HDT - Cruise Control (1 Viewer)

Looking to add cruise control to my 1HDT LHD 80. It did not come with it and will require every part. Anything helps but a complete setup would be ideal.

To my knowledge all parts are analogous to the FZJ80 with the exception of the throttle cables.

Mine is a 1FZ to 1HDT swap and all the parts are in but the actuator to pump cable, which is NLA. I've been trying to find one for over 2yrs now with no luck. If I could get a crappy one even I could have a bunch made by a company that does custom cables. But they want a physical example to work off of.

Is this the cable you are missing? Wondering if you can find something that is similar length from another Toyota or possibly have one custom made?

Yeah, that's the one. I found a company that will make one but they want an example to start from. Too many variables involved according to them.

I have had no luck finding a suitable replacement from another Toyota. I have read that the 3FE used a cable that works for the 1HDT but it is also NLA. I bought a used cable labeled as a 3FE cable at a swap meet and it doesn't fit. No idea if that's because it was mislabeled or my information is faulty.

There are a few threads out there on adding cruise to a HDJ80 that didn't originally have it. I think some things are still in the vehicle (certain wiring) and some things not but I can't remember off the top of my head.

All I know is that almost all of the FZJ80 parts will work.

The 3FE actuator and actuator to throttle lever cable fit. On 1HD-FT anyway. 1HD-T should be the same.
Original 1FZ pedal to actuator cable will fit as well. It's a bit longer than the proper 1HD cable, but you can route it slightly differently to take up the slack.

My measurements (combined with shared measurements of the cable) on actuator to pump distance look like the 3FE cable might be a bit too short. But I don’t actually have a 3FE cable in hand to test it.

I ran into the same issue a while back and ended up going with an aftermarket Dakota digital setup. It’s been 4+ years now and no complaints so far. You’d probably still need that cable though.

Circling back to this - is the 1FZ cruise control ECU the same as the 1HDT? Part numbers are different but that may be specific to region. If I recall Japan vehicles had a limit on speed or something?
Will a 1FZ ecu work?

Yes, any ECU should work. The 3FE/1FZ/1HDT have a different cable setup (and different actuator part numbers) but the wiring harness is all the same. And everything else (AFAIK) is identical.

I have mine working now after I got sick of all the fooling around and just made my own cable & pump setup. It’s not exactly pretty but it works great.

Rostra makes universal cruise control kits that will work on any vehicle. I put one on my lj78 it works great. about $300.

My setup is some mix of MacGuyver and A-Team, done with what I had on hand and what spares I could scrounge.
