I worked on it last night and ended up having to turn the fuel screw up a 1/2 turn. It's now 1/2 a turn higher than it was before I touched anything. It still feels like it could go more, but there's just about as much power as before and no smoke at all. Power comes on smoothly, but could use just a bit more off boost.

I can't figure out how touching the boost compensator could cause the max fuel setting to change. Essentially I lowered the spring preload under the diaphram and removed the restriction in the boost compensator cover. There's no way this should have affected the max fuel setting.

Oh well, it moves now!

the previous owner must know what they are doing, looks like they were grinding the rod to modify the fuel curve.

you can but the "powerrod" from 4wheelauto.

I still can't figure out how I'm a 1/2 turn up on the fuel after only opening up the boost compensator. Would something have been "stuck" inside the IP? It was always overfueling before, now it's 1/2 turn up and there's no smoke and it's slightly underpowered.

I'm still scratching my head.

I keep watching this thread with interest because I will be doing the ASCD removal very soon, if the town that has a bosch dealer where I went last week had not been having a local holiday I would have had the parts by now

Anyway, I have just posted up my latest fuel figures on https://forum.ih8mud.com/80-series-tech/365673-my-lc-80-thread.html

The only time I see anything out of my exhaust is a slight puff of dusty looking haze, it is not even smoke, I think it is just soot that builds up in the exhaust when I am chugging around town, on the odd ocassion when I give it a few beans it just blows the dust out, using these observations and my super accurate fuel consumption figures I should be able to monitor any changes good or bad once the ASCD is removed and before I start altering things like timing/fuel ect.

regards

Dave
