Hi guys recently i purchased a 1HD-FT from an engine importer in Australia, as i dont have any history on the engine what so ever I am getting the musts done while its out such as water pump , timing belt , rear main seal etc done by my local mechanic.

Before it goes in next week i have the ability to clean it up a little as its very rusty.. came from Dubai is what i know ,
Lets make a long story short here, i had just taken the front timing belt cover off the engine as i was trying to identify any markings and condition of the engine, later on came back and without thinking decided to rotate the engine with the flywheel by hand, I from what i believe have rotated the engine half a turn to the right ( Fly wheel turning clockwise from standing behind engine, i realized my mistake and stopped immediately, but before i wound it back i saw the timing belt had lots of slack on top, once wounded back the belt became tight again at the top, Just wondering if i have stuffed anything here? from what i understand the engine runs in a clockwise direction when stood at FRONT of the engine and anti clockwise from standing at back of engine, Praying i haven't ruined anything as ive just spent $10500 for it ...... condition unknown.. Hoping that myself having rotated it backwards half a turn or possibly even more has not damaged my engine

Cheers

Not wanting to be a wet blanket but if it's rusty, I doubt it came from Dubai. As far as rotating it the wrong direction, you won't damage anything unless you somehow changed the location of the camshaft relative to the crankshaft. If it's back to where it started, turn the engine in the correct direction a few revolutions, if the timing marks on the timing belt pulleys all line up each time, everything is fine.

Thanks for that mate appreciate your comments.

Ok so the guy I bought it from is very genuine and the best in the business he flys over there to check them out before bringing a container load back. There is also another post on this forum regarding injector pump numbers giving information on how old the engine is and mine comes under a “European market engine “ cannot confirm. Where else on the planet do engines gain rust from ??

A 1hdft motor from here in Australia isn't out of an 80 series as no 80's got 1hdft here. Could well be out of a 105 series though. Almost all the 'import' 1hdt and 1hdft motors coming into Australia are ex-Japan out of vehicles that have reached their legal limit for emissions compliance. So the OP's 1hdft could even be a 're-exported' ex-Japan import motor someone couldn't sell. ;) 1hdft's are not cheap here - A$10k at least for an import.

If it's a Euro-spec engine it probably came from the UK or somewhere else over that way.

95 onwards HDJ80s got the 1HDFT engine here in Oz. The 105 never came with a factory turbo engine. If it was a 1HDFTE, then it would be from a HDJ100 or a HDJ79.
