1HD-FTE: Limp mode, check engine, error 19(4) - help please (2 Viewers)

Our HDJ100R 2005 was having the same problem. Same limp mode (in my case always on idle) and code 19. Different workshops were coming with different theories. When eventually I was told that I need to replace injector pump I bit the bullet and presented to Chatswood Toyota. They are expensive, but they do not do BS and after their fix the problem is GONE!

I understand that Toyota Land Crusers are all different and in my case that resistor is attached to gas pedal.
They replaced the entire thing, pedal included. I asked them to give me original part back. Just for the part I had to shell off $1200 or $1300 (don't remember exactly).

Post the event I think I could rather open that resistor (I believe it is a resistor) and clean the contacts, but now it's late.
On a positive side, after a few months that anticipation of my car stalling at the most inconvenient (or plain vulnerable) moment is now gone, what a joy!

Anyone has suggestion what I do to this part now?

Hi,
Do you still have the accelerator pedal?

I’d bet money on it that the resistor was the problem all along - in my case cleaning of all of the contacts and replacing the resistor sorted the problem after much time and effort in throwing parts at it :)

I’m getting these limp codes

Can someone send pics of what to look for in the accelerator pedal?

I can’t see what would be the issue down there ?

Hi!

I had the same problem with my LC100 1HD-FTE. Ordered new accelerator pedal from Dave Stedman Japan 4x4. Fixed the problem right away and price was only 40000 yen(280 dollars) including shipping. Also tried to repair the pedal few times but No luck. Buy new one, it will last 25 years. :)

I had a very similar issue with my 2005, 100 Series. I had the DTC code 15(4) which was different however this still indicates Throttle Motor Circuit and the symptoms were almost the same as described above. After following the Toyota diagnosis and testing the motor for resistance, then contact cleaning everything, I started to spread the wires apart to start testing individual wire resistance knowing these plugs are an issue from this forum. As soon as I pulled on the wires the purple one fell apart. I soldered a new piece of wire to the broken one and heat shrunk it back together. All is running excellent.
Of note is that my car did go into a kind of limp mode in that it would not rev above about 2200-2500 (not sure exactly when it stopped). Dash lights were on (Check Engine, ABS & VSC) and other than that it drove and sounded normal.

Hi guys from Jamaica,
I had code 19 limp mode on 2002 too series 1hdft.
scan- Accel closed position SW circuit (open).
removed pedal and found indie position switch (white switch) was not being pushed in when I release the gas pedal because a plastic bump was missing and the spring loaded switch (male) was going inside a hole instead of being pushed in.
fix- placed a flat screw in the hole to permanently fix issue.

Hi Gents,

I have been having this same issue for some time now and did the same change as @josepha340 on 17/05/2025 Saturday morning and so for no more limp mode. There was some wear on the plastic grommet, but that such a small thing could cause so much hassles.
I first bought the Hino TPS part instead of buying the complete acceleration pedal assembly cause for the LC100 you can only by the complete assembly. It work for sometime after we changed it, but think that was just luck and the HINO one has quite a lag in the beginning before it kicks in.
After I have done about a tank of fuel I will replace the Hino TPS with my old one LC100 original one.
See pictures of the grommet that I replaced with a bolt, washer and nuts.

I had a similar problem a couple of years ago. The engine went into limp mode on slow idle. I remove the electric connector on the throttle body by the pedal. Gave it a good clean and have never looked back
I hope this may help some one. Kieron in the UK
