1HD-FTE CEL+Black smoke

02 HDJ79R ~330k km with unichip Q4, intermittent CEL + low power + billowing black smoke.

A reco fuel pump was fitted 18months ago, unichip has been on for 2 months.

Techstream is showing
P0340 Camshaft position sensor
P1220 Timer control circuit malfunction

which might indicate the crank sensor on the rear of the block or the 'engine speed sensor' on the top of the FIP is failing?
Unsure if I can't just 'unplug' the unichip?

Jump into HDJ79R OWNERS page on Facebook and ask the same question, heaps of current info on these engines there. Sounds to me like the spill value in the pump these do fail and most replace the whole pump from Toyota for $2700 as it's cheaper than a rebuild where they reuse your old spill value.
