anybody no where to find a 1fze in the upstate south carolina area? I got screwed by a friend and have a nice 96 80 with a wristpin knock

I got the top end of one, but my bottom end was shot... The whole piston can be pulled from the bottom with the crank in place, and the wrist pin can be replaced while still in the motor, this is info passed to me from some lexus mechanics. If the cyl wall isn't bad, and the piston isn't shot, that is one option...

so to get at the wrist pin i would have to pull the head and oil pans right? and im guessing that would include the whole timing assembly?

No, according to my relative who works for Lexus, it can be accessed by pulling the 2 bottom oil pans ( although you do have to unbolt the motor mounts and lift the engine a tad to get the #1 oil pan off) then you have the entire drive train in front of you, you can unbolt the offending piston rod cap and pull the connecting rod down far enough to get to the wrist pin. While you are there you can feel the inside of the cylinder wall to make sure there is no other damage in there.

well that sounds easy enough i guess it slides down to the crank shaft? and you can replace it from there?

Good lock trying to re-compress the rings sliding the piston in from the bottom.

It shouldn't come all the way down to the rings, it should only come to where the wrist pin is secured, if it were to come out, I guess you'd have to tear down the top, but I was able to do it my old block without pulling the whole piston, or disturbing the rings. This is not to say that one might not foul up and pull it too far, but I don't see how they could do that, as the wings on the piston won't allow it to come down far enough to pull the entire piston out. Just from my memory...

ok last question, im assuming the wrist pin is secured by some kind of c-clip not pressed in right?
