Hi everyone,

I’ve been wondering if the 1fz-fe had any changes in production from 1998 to 2007? For example is a 1998 1fz-fe exactly the same setup as a 2007 1fz-fe. Perhaps as the years went on it was slightly improved in areas? I couldn’t find any info on this anywhere so I’m asking here

at some point they switched from distributor to coilpack ignition, but other than that i don't know that there are many changes.
Thanks for the reply, yes my version on my 99 has the coil packs

Some markets, GCC comes to mind, had no O2 sensors in both the IFS 100 and 105 (early years). So open loop system.

That’s interesting indeed. My 99 has no oxygen sensors so I’m assuming it’s the open loop.

I think '03 worldwide, they have O2 sensors. Before that, it was phased in. I don't think it really matters to the end users unless you are going forced induction.... or maybe LPG. Curious why you are asking?

I’m more so curious as to if there was any improvements made to the 1fz-fe from 1999 to 2007 so I could potentially add these improvements to my 99 model. A bit like when they bring out a new model of the same car, it usually has a lot of improvements over the last model. I tried googling but found very little if anything.

I would go through the years and see if there was any significant change in hp/torque or fuel mileage. If not, then I'd say there was no significant improvement. However, it is a very robust and under-rated engine. If you interested in forced induction, there is a lot to be gained, power-wise.

Thanks I will look into this. And yes I am interested in going the turbo route. I personally love the 1fz, the only thing for me that let’s it down is how slow it is. I was looking at the supercharger kits but they are pretty dang pricey

Speed costs money. How fast do you want to spend? ;) The most economical way would be to find the parts used or the entire vehicle used.

This is a viable way to do it 🙂
