I have a new fuel filter for replacement. After 162K miles, I figured that it was time. I have read this thread and my FSM, and I do not see any replacement o-rings or crush washers for my 02. Was this something specific to a set of years or am I missing parts? I don't want to start this today if I don't have all of the necessary parts.
Thanks.
I replaced the fuel filter on my '00 this spring. I don't recall o-rings or washers. I had a slight leak after installation that was solved by snugging everything up. That may be from the 2004 FSM that was provided a while ago.
Cool. Thanks Pork Soda. Did you use a torque wrench with crows feet attachment to tighten? I am think of running down to Sears to pick up a set. They have metric crows feet 10 pc set for $45.
As a follow up to my last question, I stopped by Sears and picked up a set of flange type crows feet wrenches for use with my 3/8" torque wrench. I used some shop paper towels to catch the gas after loosening each end of the filter. No spills and after torquing down the flange nut, no leaks. No o-rings / no crush washers for the '02.
Replaced mine few times without any problem, last replacement was last week and was leaking badly??. I put the old one back no problem, then put an old low usage filter that I keep for emergency repair and worked perfectly. Then put the new one to for the second time and it leaked. I took it to a mechanic and it leaked, he used Teflon tape and no leak.
I believe the new filter is a defect or Not built to Toyota specs .....or Toyota is making low quality filters..
