1998 LX AHC same as 2006 LC & LX AHC ?

Question for the board?

I wondered why Mr. T hadn't added the GX470's KDDS to the LC and LX especially given that is a relatively inexpensive setup, has received rave reviews everywhere and enhances both on-road and off-road performance. KDDS Demo and Video on this page

I was looking at the site of the KDSS designer Kenetic Suspension Technology and the description of their "X System Suspension" sounds like it could be in the LX/LC AHC.

Maybe the AHC has undergone serious upgrades without a name change. Is there a difference in the 2006 AHC system compared to the 1998 AHC that would indicate some upgrading ?

The X-system sound like the X-REAS on the 4runner sport/limited. Nitrogen gas crosses over to the opposite side (via a pump?) to reduce body roll.
 
The old Austin America cars had the cross connected 4 corner air bag suspension years ago

Just to clear that up, The LX is better than the standard suspension on the GX (same as Xreas on 4runner). The KDSS is better than the LX but it works differerently. The kdss uses the sway bars to control the suspension the lx controls the shocks.

Also the x-reas suspension just uses air via a pump, not nitrogen.

LEXUSBEN, Has the AHC changed/improved from 1998->2006?
 
I drove the LX470 and the GX470 with KDSS at the lexus taste of luxury event. Both perform very similar on off road and suspension articulation is about the same. The non KDSS will lift a wheel and ATRAC will kick in.

On the slalom section the LX470 seems to have a better turn in response, this might be due to the VGRS. The GX470 with KDSS is a bit more sluggish but there was very little body roll.

On the road the LX470 has a slightly better ride due to the TEMS SKYHOOK system. The only thing I dont like about the GX470 is that it bottoms out on dips.

I believe the LX470 AHC system is farirly untouched since 98. However they have updated a few parts like the TSB on the height sensors or upgrade the logic of the system.

Can anyone verify the design changes (including logic etc) to the AHC/AVS system in the LX470, '98-present?

(This might require someone who can peak at Toyota Design Dept records...I doubt they release full info to the outside, not even to Marketing.)

You should be able to find these changes in the 'New features' guides, if there are any.

Btw. The AHC system is basically the same system as in use by Citroen since the 50's. Have a look here: http://web.actwin.com/toaph/citroen/work/work.html.

Citroen even runs the brakes from the same hydraulic supply as the suspension (with enough backup pressure in case of a system failure).
 
Come to think of it, isn't the AHC damping system just a basic/inexpensive implementation of the hydraulics to control the flying surfaces on an aircraft?

That all hydraulic systems use pipes/lines, a fluid and some pressure hardly means they are all the same.

What is TEMS SKYHOOK?
