Hi all,

Newbie here and glad to have found such a rich resource. I have a 1998 Land Cruiser / LX 470 that has the Driver's door latch lower cable frayed to the point of just 2 strands remaining. Risky or what???!!!! So I post the question to you experts: where I can get a replacement for this cable at a reasonable price. The Toyota dealer here wants to sell me the whole latch and cable and door mechansim for a few hundres dollars..... Too much for just the need of a replacement cable.

Some of the ideas i have so far are:
-Wrecked Land Cuiser; but who and where?
-Look for on-line parts dealers; but who would have just the cables (and the ends)?

Please help me. My baby need some TLC right now.

Garry

If you're talking about the rear lower door, those cables trap water inside the sleeving and corrode. If one is about to go, just replace both and spooge some grease in the sleeve to keep water out. It's any assembly purchased at the dealer.

Cruiserdan would be the best one to get it from, if it can be had as just a cable and ends, he can tell you. Check the vendors forum for contact info. Unfortunately, the only cables that I know of are the ones that hold the tailgate horizontal when it is opened...

I had the cable break in my '99. I had to open the door by rolling down the window and using the outside handle. I did this for a week until the part came in from CDan. You have to buy the whole assembly even though it is just the cable. I also had the cable break on the power seat assembly. The seat would not move back and forth. I had to buy the whole assembly with all the motors. Toyota wanted $1,200 for the seat assembly but I got the seat assembly from a junk yard for $150.

Ok So my plead is for Cruiserdan to oome to the rescue. Maybe I will attach a photo if I can.

Hey 99Cruiser,

How much did your door cable assembly cost you?

I am at the point of openning the door from the outside like you had to do....sucks. So after I park, I have to lower the window, reach oput to open the door, and then raise the window again. Funny to watch sucks to be inside. I hope I can find someone with that part soon.

I don't remember how much it cost, but it was cheaper with CDan than the local dealer. That black sticky stuff is also a pain when you try to remove the clear plastic on the inside of the door.

Hi All,

CDan still away???? Good on him to have holidays...

I wonder if the door latch/cable/mechansim is similar/identical on other Toyota trucks like 4 runner, Tundra, Tacoma etc. If so then I could look for this part in junkyards with these vehicles instead of shelling out $240 for a mechanism where I just need the cable.

Replies and suggestions wanted.

Thanks

Hi 9toys...interesting option. Let me look into that this weekend. But If Cruiser Dan show up guys please let him know I am need his help on this one.

This is a total resurrection of an ancient thread. I ended up having the same issue, broken cable. After reading and finding out I can't just buy the cable, and how expensive the alternative would be, it dawned on me that in older Toyotas, the connection used to be a rod. So to save a ton of money, I made a connector rod. It worked perfect!

Cleaver repair. If it holds up that's awesome. The driver's door cable broke in my 1998, I think the door lock actuator assembly was around $300. I saved the broken assembly part for some reason. My passenger door lock actuator went out very shortly after, so I was able to steal the small motor from the broken part and fix my passenger door for free.
