1997 throwing a P0401 code (EGR)- what to do? (1 Viewer)

I'm not talking about engine temps. I'm referring to cylinder combustion temps. Here's a link that explains it. In my case I couldn't delete it if I wanted to because we have smog checks. But my pinging went away once I fixed the problems.

 
And deleting EGR doesn't give more power because the computer shuts off flow at idle and full throttle.

Awesome, thanks for all your help and input. I'm learning. I'm currently leaning towards leaving the EGR in place but capping off the vacuum lines and seeing how she runs. If this doesn't work well for me, I can always buy a new modulator and clean the system and put it back to OE. I know that my EGR is not currently working and it's running great and I have no pinging. I also have a 94 80 and I'm amazed how much better this 97 runs than my 94. My 97 is smoother, quieter, and has more power than my 94. Thanks again.
