87 and up toyota wiring adapter. Added about 18 inches to. Also taped it up all nice before installing.

Removed the Amp. Plugged the extended harness into the 2 grey plugs that game off the amp.

fed it behind the dash and around the back of the glove box.
You can see the new harness and the stock one beside it (that is no longer used), Other then the one violet wire for the antenna!!

The antenna wire from the new HU is left out of the amp bypass.
i did extend the antenna wire so i had slack to hook it up to the stock harness.

YES there are 2 Violet wire in the stock plug, I found the one on the far right in the pic beside the green and white wire worked.
The antenna gos up when the HU has power. The preset hight works along with the UP/Down switch on the dash!

I did not include a pic of the antenna wire in the stock plug ( violet wire) as its stuffed in and tapped in there for now. till i have time to slice it in properly.

Cheers
hope this helps every one looking for a simple DIY on this :)

In order to make the antenna buttons work you had to connect the blue wire from the HU to one of the violet wires?

Yes blue to violet wire you see in pic #4 that has the green/white one next to it

Is it possible that on TLC there is no violet wire.
The only two violet wires I see there, are coming out the back of the new HU.

This was it! I've been chasing an alternator whine for 2 weeks. I pulled it all out and swapped the metra 70-8112 with the 87 and up harness. Quiet as a church mouse now. Thanks a ton for this post.
If anyone is installing a new stereo head unit into their LX450 soon, look no further. This is the only correct way to do it. If you use the wrong adapter and don't bypass the factory amplifier, you'll get a terrible whining noise from the alternator coming thru the speakers.

Bypass the factory amp and create your own little wiring harness like the OP did and it'll solve all your issues. Thanks for the hidden gem of a thread, OP.

My issues were also solved.

TL;DR:

Use this adapter:

Metra 70-1761 Radio Wiring Harness For Toyota 87-Up Power 4 Speaker

Not this adapter:

Metra 70-8112

Wanted to say thank you for this write up and solution. Car audio shop wanted to charge $300 to bypass the amp, $5 for the harness, an hour of time and a bunch of connectors and I'm in business. Why did I live with the alternator whine for so long?

Is there a way I could buy another connector for my existing single din kenwood stereo? I could take it apart again and just splice them into the new one but I don't have the manual for this stereo so I don't know what these colors connect to. Maybe I could check a manual online for any single din kenwood stereo and hope that works?

would it also be possible to just move the two gray connectors closer to the car stereo? I should probably go outside and try

So for anyone else reading this thread, this is the adapter I bought. Buy it from Amazon, it is cheapest there.

Odds are you're going to have to create your own little wiring harness like OP did in the first post and as did I. Going to need butt splices / splicing tools, extra wire to cut to extend the lines and you'll have to find your manual / guide for your stereo online so you know which wire goes with which with the adapter.

yep. thanks for posting the amazon one. I ordered it and it works! And yes, I tried to move the two gray ports to avoid extending the wires but it was a no go. I ended up using the quick splice connector which doesn't look as clean as using heatshrink but it is a toolless route.

What is this piece you added ? What wire is it connected to and what is it used for ?

I had already got a wiring harness from Raptor RAP-TY- 8100 getting ready to do this and went ahead and ordered the Metra 70-1761 . Looking at both they are the same . The gauge of the wires are the same . The only difference is the number of strands of copper wires used and the thickness of each wire. The Raptor uses 16 strands of wire that are bigger in diameter . The Metra uses 24 wires and are smaller in diameter . I don't know if that matters or not ,I'm just pointing out the difference . Here are a few photos of the Raptor harness . I think I'm going to use the Raptor because of the bigger strands of wire . The strands on the Metra are so tiny I'm afraid they will be very easy to break apart . Does anyone know which is better ? Bigger gauge strands but fewer or more strands but smaller gauge ?

Hey Folks -

Went ahead with the advice from the OP! Had purchased the incorrect adapter with the horrible whine, so much better with the Metra 70-1761! Thanks @stevenmichael for pointing me to this thread.

Quick question - went ahead and connected the blue wire from my stereo to the blue in the metra plug. That blue wire goes to two pins, one of which is the Light Purple with the Gray dot in it. Having no luck on my Power Antennae buttons (which worked with the old plug). Any tips on getting that functional again?

Thanks!

edit - pulled the wiring diagram from the Wiring Manual and figured I would post here to save future folks time. From the Auto Antenna ECU I see the 14 position with the V wire headed to the"Radio And Player" Postion 8 marked Antenna. Am I wrong in thinking that this is not correct via the Bypass. So am I supposed to find a different antenna wire that is not in the Gray Plug pulled out of the Amplifier?

TYIA !
