Hello TLC family
we have been stuck in miramar for 10 days....
we being myself and my 97 Lexus Lx450 300k.
I dont really mess with dealers beyond parts
Ive been with one mechanic for 15 years literally, and he is out of town for two more weeks, also literally.
My cruiser has never had any electrical problem ever until now......
I have reached an impasse....
I am the weak link as I have no experience with using a meter properly......
as well i have every schematic for my Cruiser, and I understand what IM reading but can no longer make progress as IM clueless with the meter.....

my alternator clip plug that goes into the back of alternator completely disintegrated when i tried to reseat it
i did this because the battery meter dropped below its proper position,The plug itself has been developing its own personality.....
when i tried to reseat it the three wires touched and sparked big time
as a result..
I fried the three fusible links coming from the positive terminal of battery
as well the main efi relay and 50 amp cartridge fuse both located in the fuse block next to battery
I have since replaced these parts with oem parts...
although more bells and whistles have returned
I am still dead in the water,,
i have power to ignition and starter but she will not catch or even try...
although many things have got power

I am WITHOUT
RADIO ..
headlights
tail lights
cluster lights
and seemingly...no power to efi and ecu

all fuses in both panel and block appear to be in good shape..visually
however a few things in the panel by my knee are not getting power when they were tested with a meter

I have been instructed to follow the white cable with red stripe coming from the fusible link that i just replaced coming from positive terminal

this wire flows to a connector that lives beneath fuse block ...
i have detached fuse block to access the connector so it can be tested for power, this is where I become useless as Im clueless with a meter.

Ive been blessed by our Cruiser family as two guys worked online with me for many hours, including trying to guide me with meter.
to no avail...the guys helping were extremely educated and familiar and also had schematics, They were next level familiar..like having a personal friend at the dealer
Im educated and more than willing to learn and get dirty.

but my patience and the heat wear me down to the point i get furious for not having learned a meter.
I have not left my truck other than food bathroom and parts,I think Im on 10 days
I REALIZE THIS SOUNDS CRZY,I CAN EXPLAIN LATER NEED BE
I am at the point where I need to trace the power and find the damaged area or fuse or link that is preventing power to goto fuel delivery and ecu.....so that engine will start

I NEED A FRIEND OR A REFERRAL TO SOMEONE WHOM LOVES CRUISERS OR LOVES ELECTRICS AND KNOWS HOW TO USE A METER.....
IM IN MIRAMAR ON PRIVATE PROPERTY I HAVE TOOLS AND A CRAPPY LIGHT TESTER AS WELL IM ONLINE FOR SCHEMATICS...
I NEED HELP FINDING THE SHORT ON THE HARNESS WITH A METER..
IM AWARE THATS A VERY TALL ORDER....
BUT THIS IS A LAND CRUISER...SO IVE GOT TO KEEP TRYING....

MY CRUISER IS THE DAUGHTER I DO NOT HAVE YET
IEV HAD HER FOR 15 YEARS..DRAMA FREE
I TAKE BETTER CARE OF HER THAN I DO MYSELF
SHE HAS ALWAYS PURRRRED LIKE A LION...REGULAR SCHEDULED MAINTENANCE..ALWAYS..
NEVER ONCE AN ELECTRICAL ISSUE..

THANKYOU ALL FOR ANY TIME AND CONSIDERATION

BOW TO THE CRUISER

Stuck in Miramar Florida?

Have you checked all the big 40 and 50 amp fuses? EFI relay?

So....you have a 'multi-meter' to work with, correct?

Do you also have a simple 'test light', if not...go get one.

Please describe or post a pic of your multi-meter....so we can instruct on its functions.

When using your meter....you will basically be using only two or three of its functions.

1. Setting to read 12vdc
2. Continuity setting (if it has this dedicated feature).
3. Ohm setting to determine continuity and/or resistance.

Look to see that you have a check engine light with ignition to on position.
Start at your battery and confirm that it has a good charge (at least 12.4 volts).
Check your ground leads from the battery to fender and chassis.
Pull each and every fuse in the underhood fuse panel and check for continuity (do not rely on visual inspection).
IF all fuses are O.K. remove the fuse panel and visually inspect all the wire connections underneath.
Double check your fusible link connections.

Come back and tell what you've found. We can move forward from there.

If you need to know how to use your meter and test light for any of these tests, let us know.

And in the future...DON'T remove or fool with any hot circuits (remove the ground from the battery before working on electrical system)
