Hello all,
I've decided it's time to part with my 1996 LC and I figured I would start here instead of eBay, Craigslist, etc. I picked this one up in 2008 at 171K from a mud member and expected to keep it "forever" if possible. It's been an outstandingly reliable rig for me, one that I have really grown to love over the years. It's been a 2nd/3rd vehicle for me and it's always been there when I needed it. The only time it's ever broken down on me is when the PHH went before I even know what a PHH was! It's seen very little off road use and nothing too rough at all. Anyway, here are the details:
-Moonglow over Oak Leather
-215K miles
-Clean Carfax, clean title in hand, 4 owners.
-Factory Lockers
-Slee Short Bus Front Bumper (over $1000 shipped!). I have the factory bumper.
-OME low level springs (1" lift) with Bilsteins
-Goodyear Duratracs 285/75/16 with 25K miles on them (still great tread-great tire overall)
-OME steering stabilizer
-Landtank MAF (installed by previous owner)
-Scion/Toyota CD player (installed by PO)
-Center Diff Switch (installed by PO), it works fine.
-Maintenance/Repairs in recent years: brakes, rotors, couple calipers, power steering work, full tune up last fall, fuel tank line, battery, I'm sure there is more that I am forgetting.
-Hood replaced a couple years ago with a repainted unit from Cruiser Parts in NH.
-Rear upper tailgate replaced a few years ago with a repainted unit from Cruiser Parts. These come with a 10 year warranty against rust. Unfortunately I am getting some bubbling by the Toyota emblem. I imagine they will replace it; I just haven't had the time.
-Original paint still shines well for the most part.
-Truck runs very well and burns/uses very little oil.
-Interior is better than average. Front seats have dried out quite a bit despite my regular use of Lexol. No tears. Back seats are in great shape as well as the 3rd row jump seats (not in truck right now)
-Headliner is fine as well as the dash.
-Carpet is in good shape overall with very few stains.
-Non-smoker
-Sunroof and power antenna work fine (sometimes it doesn't go all the way down).
-Running Boards removed due to rust
-2 keys (no remotes) and manuals included.
-Wheels are plasti-dipped black. They are moderately corroded, but don't leak air.
The BAD:
-There is significant rear frame/axle rust/rot. This is the primary reason why I am selling. New England winters/salt have taken their toll unfortunately. See pics. The front is much better than the rear.
-AC doesn't work and hasn't worked since I bought it. Never was a big deal to me.
-Oil Pressure Gauge doesn't work and hasn't worked since I bought it.
-There is a power steering fluid leak. I paid good money to have this fixed last fall, but it recently started leaking again. I have to add fluid every couple months.
-Passenger side power seat forward/back doesn't work-needs new plastic gears, $40 plus labor
-Driver's seat recline button is missing; it works if you use scissors or something like that.
-Driver's side mirror power controls don't work from side to side (or is it up/down? not sure)
-Rear locker is not working-the light blinks and it doesn't engage. Front works OK. I've had this thing in some deep snow over the years and I've never even needed the lockers.
-The spare tire chain/holder is pretty rusted up so I've been keeping the spare in the back. The spare is a 285/75/16 Dueler in decent shape.
-Slee bumper hasn't responded well to NE weather; it's faded some and has some rust spots.
-Clear coat on the roof and fender flares is peeling.
-There are a few light scrapes and light dents mainly on the driver's side, but nothing too bad. I think they show character on a rig like this! I've had no accidents with it other than backing into a MINI Cooper at 5mph (no damage to the LC, much damage to the MINI).
-There are some light rust bubbles forming around the windshield. You don't even see them unless you are up close.
-D light in display doesn't work (common thing)
-Temp (red/blue) band on hvac control intermittently lights up at night.
That's about all that comes to mind at the moment. I believe transparency is important when selling something especially to an enthusiast community like this. If this were a rust free southern truck I think it would be worth good money, but that's clearly not the case. I was thinking of asking $4000, but I understand that could be a bit strong given the undercarriage rust and other issues. I'm definitely open to offers and advice. I've loved 80's since they came out (I may get another or a 100), but I haven't had the time in recent years to spend time on the forum/attend events, etc. Let me know if you have questions or offers; I'll post some basic pics and follow with more below.
Thanks!
