I'm importing a 1995 FZJ75 Troopy from Oman, should arrive here in the states around 1 February. It has the 1FZ-F carby engine, so no EFI.

What are my chances of it getting registered here in Cali? It doesn't have OBD2 capability nor does it have emissions equipment. The 1FZ-F carby engine was never sold in the US from my knowledge.

If I can't register it in Cali no big deal, will do it in my home of record as I'm military, but getting a Cali registration would be a huge boon for any potential resale down the line.

Highly unlikely, DMV will require a smog test based on its year. No shop will be able to smog it. Besides it not having equipment to pass smog, Everything is electronic these days linked to VINs, your VIN will come up as invalid, smog shops will be too scared to touch it. Unless you do something shady, it can’t be legally registered in CA.

Even the diesels that are exempt from emissions are a miracle to get registered in CA.

But sweet rig, register it elsewhere and enjoy it.
