looking at a 1995 80 at a dealer tonight... he doesn't know if it has a center diff lock... was that std or an option in 1995... where is it, so i can look for it... is it something that can be added easily if it's not there...

sorry i'm at work and don't have time to do a search...

it will be my DD... so i don't care about f/r lockers... maybe add an ARB some day... what else should i look for?

thanks!

The locker turndial to the left of the steering wheel is for the Front and Rear lockers....the center lock swith was not offered on that year (only 91-92 I think)...If a center lock is all you want it is cheap and easy to installl...takes all of 5 min and CDan at American Toyota or Slee can get you one....If the previous owner installed a center lock swith then it is usually above the radio next to the antenna up and down switch

The transfer case has a center lock stock when put into 4low......It is a standard option. It will activate a light on the dash automatically, along with the ABS light coming on to let you know that system is off.

You can add a switch later if you want on the dash that will enable you to lock the center in 4high for not much money.

Why would a Cruiserhead like you buy an unlocked 80?? They cost not a penny more, and you're set for life with a system that's even integrated with the ABS system. Why?

Doug that is a good point... but here in the midwest just finding an 80 is hard... maybe i need to look to the west and sw... also i figured they cost more...

thanks for the input!

cmc, i know you are getting it as a dd, but why not just go ahead and narrow the search down to lockers? It might take a little longer, but why not, it doesn't make the truck any more expensive, and one day you will be glad you had them.

Casey,

Use the forum here to help you find one. Lots of qualified people here who'll go look for one and DON'T try to handle it yourself remotely. I nearly got taken myself on a rig, and I have had 4 80s and a 62, plus used to work for Toyota HQ blah blah. Someone local looked at it and it was a Florida crook - misstated miles, condition, you name it.

Right here in my little home town there's a non locked 40th for sale and an LX450 with lockers. Guys on the list can steer you right.

This is good advice, use the forums as a resource and look outside of state if the pickings are slim. I understand the challenge of finding a good 80 that has the OE lockers. If you can wait, a good one locked up will come along. Use the axle code question of a seller to quickly identify OE lockers. (More info on the code under search)

Drivers side data sticker, under the large bar code across the bottom will be a string of #’s. About in the middle will be K-292 or it will say K-294. K-294 is the code for OE lockers. (Also magic to your eyes when you have researched 12+ trucks w/ K-292!)

However don’t get too hung up on lockers, it’s nice but a well maintained non locked truck beets a poorly maintained locked one any day.

Hey Doug,

You wouldn't want to shoot me a PM with info on the Locked LX, would you?

I tend to keep my eyes open for nice rigs available for sale, but typically only post info here if it has lockers.

If anyone finds a rig in or around the Sacramento, CA area, feel free to contact me if you want someone to look it over.
