Ok, thanks for the info. So, the AA doesn't have a bushing or a seal. Any chance of ATF leaking out of the 4L60E?

when my parents finally get rid of the old family silverado i'm going to call dibs on the engine and swap it when the 1fz finally takes a dump (so far i'm at 220,000 and no sign of it dying any time soon though). Seeing as i am in no way capable of swapping the engine myself, what do you think a shop would charge to do this swap?

Can you tell us where you got the brass fitting?
Another update - got the stock temp gauge working today. I tapped the brass bung to the correct 16mm size and screwed the assembly into place in the vortec head. The gauge is working once again.
Looks like this fitting is a direct fit!

The fitting in the head is 10 x 1.0 mm. Looks like your fitting you are showing is 16 x 1.5mm to 12 x 1.5mm?
Is it possible that there are different taps for different years/head types?

Where did you get the brass adapter to drill out? Is it the autometer 2277?

Slee charges 15k for the Lexus swap.
I'm working on trying to sort that out. I saw that thing from the automation whatever web site and the issue that I see is the threaded section may be too short to reach the threads on the temp gauge. There is about 3/8th or so below the threads that would hit before you could screw it in. If you tried it, let me know 'cause that would be fantastic!
I'm thinking that it's one of those autometer plugs drilled and re-tapped. I think I'm going to order one and tap as well and see how that goes.
The oil pressure I will drill and tap the oil cooler fitting by the oil filter. Just like he did, also what I did on my last 5.3 build. I used the autometer adapter last time, but ran a standard autometer sensor. I just can't remember if it's big enough to drill out to 16mm.
The brass autometer coolant adapter is not suited to this task. I used the stainless one from speedhut:

Well, in my own opinion, the brass is too soft on the autometer adapter and I twisted the boss off the fitting when I installed into the head. I had to dig the threads out with a pick. The speedhut is stainless and much harder, I installed it with no issue. just my own 2 cents.... YMMV
Did you drill and tap it out to 16mm and use the stock sensor? I ordered one and the shoulder is only deep enough to catch one maybe two threads on the sensor before hitting the 12mm part. Not enough for me. I don't think this is a good one for running the stock sensor either. Onto plan c for me.
Hi SSYork, which stock sensor? I used the speedhut sensor adapter on my LS3 heads and the Speedhut temp sensor.
Just the stock one out of my 94. I don't have it on hand right now so I can't take a pic of it. Will take a pic when I get it back. It had a long shoulder on it below the threads though.
