Hi

My "new" 'yet to be acquired' FJ80 has worn cloth seats, I was thinking of converting it to leather. Has any1 done theirs? I searched threads and I see people talk about '93 + FJ80s mostly. Are the seat configurations different for those years.? Pictures would be gr8ly appreciated. Also costs related etc and I am in the PA area so any one in the tri states who are experienced and need a weekend project sometime are welcome. My daily driver is a 1992 ackvig here

Hey Welcome. I am also new to this forum. But I do have leather in my 92 and it was done through a Dealer in Jersey I am not sure which one since it was done in like 95. But I am pretty sure that the seat configurations are the same in any 93+. A good leather kit will run you between 800-1k, thats if you plan to do it yourself. I forget how much I paid for it but i was somewhat more than that. There are aloto f knowledgeable people on this site so I am sure someone can help you.. Good Luck!

I did the leather seat conversion but it was with the manual seats, not the motorized type. The seats were out of a 93 or 94, can't remember, (I've got a 92.) I had no problems putting them in, bracket lined up perfectly.
Good luck finding a full set though. I emailed a seller on ebay after I lost the bid to say if the buyer fails to purchase, I've got cash in hand. Got all 6 seats for around $200, after all said and done. If you buy from outside your silling ness to drive and go got them, you'll pay about 60 to 80 bucks each for shipping.

cool. you from FL eh? what part. I am from the tampa bay area, moved to kansas last year and moved to NC this year and moving to PA in a week :D
well, my job as a consultant requires me to move so much.

Urban Landcruisers (Located in Atlanta) has a full set of leather seats for sale ( I think they are still available) from a 95 IIRC.

I have leather in my 96, not impressed with how they held up. I think I would lean towards cloth next time. Kids are hard on the leather and I have been told that they sent the top grade leather in 96 to the Lexus factory and the Toyota's got the inferior leather. Not sure if it's true, but my seats in the front aren't too great any more.

Toyota used the same leather they've always used in the LC - why would they "cheapin" their legendary flagship vehicle - for an upstart Lexus? I'm certain Lexus received about the same - perhaps a different type of leather (I recently "invested" in a sweet leather sofa - amazed at all the leather types you get to choose from - more than 20!). And yes, my leather is still excellent but my driver seat has cracked - due to extreme weather(?) cold of Connecticut and africa heat of South Florida - ultimately not impressed either. I have Wet Okele seat covers - semi custom - makes the boo-boo :crybaby: all gone. :bounce:

Personally, I prefer cloth seats. However, if you have cloth seats and prefer leather, it isn't all that hard to have leather seat covers made for your cruiser. I myself use cloth seat covers on my cloth seats as I can launder them periodically or as the need arises.

Guess, I will start looking for leather covers. Does anyone know a realiable source in the USA who makes the covers for a 92 FJ80.

thanks,

There are differences in the leather/cloth seats and between some years I believe. I have heard the 91-2 leather was port installed, not factory installed, and the power/no-poer are definitely different.
Several people have been happy with www.katzkin.com .
www.autoleathers.com is there online retail site.

EDIT: They don't have the pricing online for the early models, but for a 96 it is about $1100 with the self install kit, it includes all three rows, door panels/armrests, headrests, etc. Price should be similar for the 91/2.

Is there anyone in the Philly area or within 2 hours who does a good job?

There is definitely a difference between Toyota leather and Lexus leather. There was also a difference between lower model Lexus and top Lexus leather.

Also try Classic Soft Touch, which is like Katzkin but I think better quality.

If you are interested, I am selling both my third row and my second row from my 97...make an offer...I am in Ohio and could do a Philly trip...even just for a stop at Pat's!! ;)

Drop a line....

Best.

Hi beno. Thank you for the offer but I am looking for a whole set just to make things easier.

you can also try leatherseats.com, got a set of two tone skins from them for my SC400 and they fit perfectly, were very good quality and look great.

just checked the site and they look great. will call them and ask if they have seats for 92 fj80 though

all of the aftermarket leather seat sets for salefor 80s are for the manual seats. i looked into this a while ago and you would need to provide a pattern to one of the shops to do replacements for the factory leather seats.

the electronic adjustment in the leather front seats in a 93+ are great. they are super comfy and very versatile. the leather itself not so great. you could get a used trashed leather seat set from a wrecker and put a cover on. You will be able to find some trashed seats fairly easily and i can't imagine they charge that much for them. the seats from 93-97 are the same and I imagine they will bolt in but I don't know if a 91-92 would have the harness for the controls. even if it did not, all you would need would be power.
