The new engine is in and running. Thanks to Pat Lynch. The project is back in motion. Nowhere near done. I have a Speski cargo cage ordered as well as a full set of Cruisin’ Offroad skid plates on the way. We gonna do some traveling this summer!

So, a quick note about the water temperature switch on the upper passenger side of the thermostat housing: They dont make them anymore and they are hard to find. I finally found a used one off of an FJ62. Note to self: many of the engine components for the 62’s are the same as the 91-92FJ80. I saw in a google search that the LC part cross references with a Camry part. Of course I lost the search like a dummy. If I was me I’d stock up on those whenever possible. Many of the housings you find for sale have them broken off. I assume they become brittle over time. Also, I saw them on Alibaba but have not investigated that fuurther yet. Napa has one shown on thier site but its not sold anymore. Be ware. You gotta have it....

agreed. nice cruiser
Thanks. Have since gone to the Pro Comp Rock crawler. I realized that I had steely lugs on the truck and that wasn’t working with the newer LC mags. After looking at cost on the lugs ($120) i thought, dang I’m half way to the cost of a set of Rock crawlers. Already had the lugs so it was a no brained. Interestingly, once the axle switch was done and before I figured out the lug issue I had this clicking noise in the rear. Applying the emergency brake would take care of it for a short time. But the brake was moving freely on the wheels. SO WTF. Then i found my lugs loose (i assume because they were the wrong ones. That frieked me out so I ordered the steelies. The click is gone.... Sometimes wiht thei truck I think the ghost of Rod Serling is hanging around....

So, I need a new alternator. Geez..... Expecting my Cruisin OffRoad plates anytime. So yea. Next step will be finishing up the OBA and them moving onto the doors and windows. Windows are getting a pretty solid overhaul. The rubber and motor. I’m filling the inside with the honey coat as my doors had a tad of rust on the bottom (the outside was sanded and coated wiht POR15 and then covered with bed liner. The speakers have been a pain in my ass since day one. I gotta have music. But the speakers were some jacked up size shown as 6”. Well they dont match up to any other 6” speaker. So, I have to make up some plates. The template is already made out of luon.

Once the doors are done I’ll get the new water and tranny stats wired up and installed near the volt meters in front of the shifter.

That will conclude my major efforts for this year. I’ll be posting some trips this summer around the Midwest somewhere else. I’ll have the truck where I want it for a drive out to Cruise Moab in 2019.

I want to take a minute to thank the endless multitude of Cruiserheads who have helped me out. Especially Pat who is a damn good mechanic and luckily for me knows a lot about Land Cruisers. If youre in the Midwest please check out Indiana Land Cruisers on Facebook. Also the 3fe Owners Corner on facebook.

Fully ashamed of myself for it keeping up on this thread. At this point in time the truck is pretty much where I want it. There are little things always. But the heavy lifting is all done. A few items of note: FF axle In the back now. Wholesale Automatics fully built A440F, the Tcase now has OD and Low range gears which gets me to acceptable speed on the highway (Thanks Georg), guages for the water and tranny (wish I had done oil pressure....), mounted my fuel bottles for the stove on my tire swing out, added the Wilco Offroad swing out so my bike rack can swing free of the tire carrier without a difficult process, new AC compressor, alternator etc. My new foray is cooking. I added a disc cooker and bought a Coleman two burner stove. All of my gear will run on unleaded fuel from supply on the truck. When cooking larger meals you do use a lot of fuel. I also bought a portable fire pit/grill from Summit Offroad. Heavy but nice to have in certain situations. I will update pics soon But heres a few.

What did they do to the transmission?

What did they do to the transmission?
Wholesale rebuilds them, does work to the valve body to get more crisp shifts and pull more weight and their own torque converter. Basically a new transmission which runs cooler and give me lockout in 3rd gear. Supposedly it improves fuel Economy but I haven’t done a long enough highway trip to figure that out for sure. Around town I’m kicking ass at 11.6mpg’s and driving it like I mean it which is somewhat better than what it used to be.

The combination of the overdrive gears in the Tcase and the tranny I hope will really shine on the highway. When I had the Tcase gears and the old tranny I got 14.3mpg’s loaded with 3 people in the truck. If I could get it to 15 I’d be thrilled.

Georg Esterer at Valley Hybrids is he US dealer. Check his website.

For the record, I’m thrilled with it. I’d do it again.

So the upgraded valve body? What did that run you if you don't mind me asking.

I got the whole transmission directly from Australia. The valve bodies I think are are around 1500$ if I recall from my research. Georg can tell you for sure. I understand thy are not that difficult to change.
