1992 FJ80 Build “MITY”

Howdy All-


I'm new to the forums. This is my second FJ80. My first was a 1995 that my wife and loved but sold due to her long commute to work.

This one is a 1992. It has an OME lift on it and a lot of fixes done by the previous owner. It's got 228k on and runs great. Its permanent home is in Indianapolis or at least with me!

My plans are to turn it into a trail cruiser although it will be mostly a vehicle to run around and have fun in with the family. Sometimes on and sometimes off road.

Mods on the way:
Slee front and rear bumpers ordered
M8000 winch just arrived
White Knuckle Sliders in transit
Pioneer touch screen just completed
Line X of the fender flares next weekend
The above is probably the tip of the iceberg..

I'm glad to be part of the group AND I'm looking for a passenger side front lock actuator!

Black wheels look great, especially when they are corroded old Lexus wheels underneath! Its good to hear of other cruisers around. They are fairly unseen around here. There's another white one somewhere near me but cant ever seem to run across him in a parking lot. Thanks for the comments.

Looking good! Looks like the PO took good care of it, and put a few "upgrades" on it. Is that the 2.5" OME lift? Nice stance, not too much "stink bug" going on. Enjoy!

It is. He put medium springs on the back. I'm trying to figure if that will handle Slee bumper with ladder and tire carrier.

From the picture it looks to me like it should hold that fine. Worst case, you could add a set of spring spacers if it drops it too far. But I think as long as you don't have the back loaded down with drawers, fridge and tools it would be ok. Now, if your adding the ladder because your thinking of going with a rtt then you are going to want to go with the heavies.

I verified with both Slee and ARB that it will probably be OK. If it feels odd then I'll install the heavies.

Probably not if you add stuff to cargo area. I have a 1st gen Slee with tire carrier and with my Toyo MT 315, OEM steelie rim, Hi-Lift, and some cargo in the back it looks like it is leaning rearwards slightly. That is with heavies up front, ARB, winch, air tank, air compressor, and dual battery.

Well, looks like there will be drawers, a fridge and tools etc. Which model of the heavies is the right number? 2863 seems like the right one.

A friend is selling me a used fridge for a ridiculous price. Now I'm thinking gonna need dual batteries. I'm thinking I know what a Herron addict feels like. I only hope I don't start robbing houses to get my rig built....

This is getting expensive......

What is the paint code on your truck? Mine is a 1994 and has the 4K1 code. I am thinking about options for some body work next spring and I am curious to know if the 91-92 fenders and paint codes are the same.

Some would disagree with me but powder coating isn't all that great. I'm a contractor and i watch powder coating peel off trailers all the time. I dont think it will work very well on wheels with oxidation on them, even if it brushed off real well. Thats speculation on my part but touching up the spray paint on the wheels is an easy task.
