Not that I think that my cable isn't adjusted right but have you guys had luck adjusting the shift points for bigger tires? - yeah hijack...

Matthew

The only way to change the shift points is by changing the spring rates of the valves in the valve body.

What??

Adjusting the "kickdown" cable absolutely changes the shift points on an A440F. This simple adjustment can make a huge difference in how the engine seems to perform, much like the ECT button on the later model trannies: Easier to get it to downshift when passing or getting on the freeway, more "correct" selection of gears on uphill, winding roads, etc.

Jon, are you sure this is you? I'm starting to suspect an imposter. ;)

Easy big fella. I spent some QT with the FSM last night. Looks like the throttle cable to the tranny (what we've been calling the kickdown cable) will control the overall fluid pressure in the valve body thereby changing the speed at which the upshifts/downshifts occur. Having never done this myself I never had the opportunity or need to play around with it. However there are some things in the FSM that make me question if this is a good idea for the lifespan of clutch packs and brakes within the tranny. For example, almost every troubleshooting tip starts with a properly adjusted cable. From slipping gears to harsh shifts. I seem to also recall Rodney sending out several paragraphs on the 3FE list regarding the adjustments and possible damage. I'm going to have to spend some time digging those up. His knowledge base regarding slushboxes is quite deep.

I hereby formally withdraw my statement regarding overall shift ponts on the A440F, however it is correct if you wanted to change only certain shift points. So there.
