Enigma, thanks for alerting me to this thread. The most probably reason for the salvage only write-off from ICBC is so they can manipulate the statistics to look like RHDs are more likely to be written off and so they can make a case for them to be banned or to substancially increase insurance rates. They tried to do this once before and IVOAC did a Freedom of Information Request and contracted UBC to review their "research" and conclusions. The IVOAC report ripped the ICBC study to shreds so much so their 'professional' statisticians refused to stand behind their own study. We believe that the same auto industry interests that were being that ICBC study are also behind these write-offs.
As a RHD owner accepting these ICBC terms, you do all other RHD owners a dis-service if you accept a write-off when it is clear that the cost to repair the damage does not come close to write-off amount. In this case, it is obvious that resprayed used parts (the ICBC prefered method) would not be that difficult to obtain, as the body is almost identical in the NAM and JDM 80 series.
Good luck with your sale. But next time tell ICBC to go F themselves unless it truely is a write-off. It is your vehicle and still legally registered until your sign it away.
