For Sale:
1989 Toyota FJ62
Odometer: Reads 303,722 miles. (probably closer to 308,000 miles – see below)*
Price: $4000
Location: NW Indiana
Description:
For sale is a 1989 FJ62 Toyota Landcruiser. Very few of these trucks were made & shipped to the US. This automatic variant of the 60 series was made & sold for (3) years in the US (1988-1990). These iconic trucks have a long history of reliability. They are also known for their off-road capabilities, but I am assuming you know that. Please see below for the detailed disclaimer, both good and bad. This is my second Toyota Landcruiser (also own a 1996 FZJ80). I am selling this due to the amount of time needed to restore. I travel quite a bit with my job & do not have the time to restore. I also own another 25+ year old vehicle which I am currently restoring.

The good:
- Engine runs strong. Leaks very little oil. Has never left us stranded. Daily driver.
- Installed new TPS (throttle position sensor) when purchased.
- Removed/greased speedometer cable. When truck was purchased, cable was stuck. Previous owner believed there is 5K additional miles on above.*
- Rewired rear of truck in June of 2014
- New front rotors, pads, & calipers.
- New rear rotors & shoes.
- Front locking hubs work very well. Utilized the past (2) winters.
- Purchased/installed a very good condition, used lower hatch on rear.
- Converted oil to Mobil 1 – 0W40.
- Performed a full flush of the radiator/engine block in Oct of 2014. Replaced coolant with Zerex Original Green.
- Performed a heater core flush in Oct of 2014. Heater blows hot/air conditioning works well.
- Installed new (Toyota) thermostat/thermostat housing when performing above. Cracked old one when performing above.
- Sale would include old lower hatch which could be repaired/welded.
- Sale would include various other parts for vehicle including:
- New, rear wheel cylinders (driver side & passenger side)-Duralast Part 34013 x 2
- New, brake master cylinder - NAPA Part 390294
- Extra set of rear (drum) shoes - Duralast Part 549
- New, rear wheel cylinders (driver side & passenger side)-Duralast Part 34013 x 2
- Tires have decent tread left on them. Tires are ProComp Mud Terrains.
- Body is rough. Previous owner ‘cut up’ rear quarter panels to remove rust. There is enough metal to weld on.
- There is not a front bumper or a rear bumper. Mountings are intact.
- Seems to be slight leak on gas tank. Does not drip gas, but you can see gas ‘sweat’ on tank after you fill up the tank, drive for awhile & view from underneath the vehicle (rear drivers side). When gas level goes down, you do not see the gas ‘sweat’ anymore. Per my reading on this model & the great folks at IH8MUD I believe this to be very common on this model . Tank rusts from top/needs to be dropped to be fixed.
- Front axle seals would have to be replaced at some point. They don’t seem to be as bad as my ’96 FZJ80’s were. Knuckles are holding grease. Not a big job, but a messy job.
- Would need a new tailpipe welded from muffler, back.
