1989 FJ62 Transmission Issues for newbies

hi

thinking of getting a 89 fj62. the only problem the seller saying it has ...... from 1st to 2nd the gear shift revs up. you have to pull off foot and then push it back and it catches the other gears just fine. Is this an easy transmission issue to fix or will it take a complete rebuild. Thanks. New to FJ community .... can use help and advise.

Use it a a negotiating point to lower the price $3000. Then use that money to install an H55f 5speed. In a way, you have an ideal scenario, seller looking to unload a truck with a bad tranny, you should be able to get it at a very good price, and upgrade to the transmission the FJ62 should have come with in the first place.

Nothing about the A440 transmission is cheap to repair. Fortunately, they rarely need repair. You might get lucky but go in with your eyes wide open.
